James Mirtle and I have some fun at the expense of the Southeast. Check out the scoring differentials of both Lecavalier and Kovalchuk between opponents in their own division (and its weak goaltending) and against the rest of the league in the comments section.

On a per game basis
Lecavalier:
SE Div: 0.70g/gm, 1.75pts/gm
Other: 0.54g/gm, 1.08pts/gm
Kovalchuk:
SE Div: 0.94g/gm, 1.94pts/gm
Other: 0.70g/gm, 1.00pts/gm |
That's insane, and it's no wonder they're putting up the big points years. It also is making me withdraw Lecavalier from my personal vote for the Hart. They're still very good, but if they were in the West they might only be on pace for 80-90 points... and possibly less.
Maybe I'll change it to this guy:

Ovechkin:
SE Div: 0.71g/gm, 1.18pts/gm
Other: 0.79g/gm, 1.26pts/gm |
The tougher the competition, the better Ovechkin plays. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

I like the factual numbers being thrown around in here. Keep up the good work. _________________ -UP THE IRONS! |

Wow very interesting. But since the division has sucked for a long time it begs the question: how did teams from there win 2 out of the last 3 Stanley Cups? Well rested after such an easy schedule? |

They were good teams, just in a bad division. It's entirely possible that the Lightning only got 1st in the East because of their division opponents, although back then there weren't as many points to gain vs one's own division as today. Both Carolina and Tampa were also much healthier than their opponents in general throughout their playoff run. Remember Buffalo's D for Game 7 of the ECF two years ago? _________________ "Oh my God.
