OK, NHL, now here's a pickle for you. Laughing

The hit wasn't actually that hard, he may have been off-balance, but it was a hit from behind nevertheless. Downie being the victim really shouldn't matter, but you know it has to be in the back of everyone's mind...

Just like the Jones hit(except that he hit him between the shoulder blades instead of putting his arm behind the shoulder blades and planting his face into the glass). This is the kind of thing that the NHL could and should easily suspend for a good length and actually show some intolerane towards hitting from behind.

If Kovalchuk got one game and Rivet got zero, this one should get zero. Let's see if there's a double-standard...

Wow, really odd the way he sprung forward. Anyone know if Downie played in the third?

Yup, and got into a fight too.

And springing forward certainly wouldn't be an "odd" thing for Downie to do. I think the word for it would be "expected".

“Anybody else, they would get two minutes,” Laraque said just before he exited the Wachovia Center. “There was no intent to hurt him whatsoever. If I want to hurt someone and I hit the guy from behind, he's not going to get up.”

Georges wrote:
“Obviously, he wasn't hurt,” Laraque said. “He got up and smiled and laughed and fought in the third. He did a great job of milking it, and it worked.”

It's a real shame the Oscar nominees have already been announced.
