Very Happy What the hell was I sayin'? I'm so used to the B's having a solid D, that just automatically came out. But yeah - Chara and Thomas are great, and IMO, they do have potential.

Now the Habs traded away Huet. Downhill for them now with a sieve in the pipes for the rest of the season. My biggest concern now is how much better the Pens have gotten now that they have Hossa to go with Crosby and Malkin....ouch!!

You really think the Habs have a snowball's chance in hell riding a backup netminder through the rest of the season & playoffs?? You certainly fit the title of this thread in that you are delusional.

Carey Price is a much better goalie than Cristobal Huet. We might not win with Price, but if that happens things certainly wouldn't have turned out any better with Huet in goal.

It's basically the equivalent of me at the start of the season deriding the Bruins for relying on a "backup" like Tim Thomas when Manny Fernandez was the number one on paper.

Trading Huet and putting in Price is more like the universe re-aligning himself.

Except that Thomas is far better than anything you have, and Price is young, inconsistent, and unproven. Quad is correct, you guys fucked yourself, and it's absolutely glorious to see...

No. of playoff games for Carey Price = 0
No. of playoff games for Tim Thomas = 0
No. of playoff games for Cristobal Huet = 6

We're not exactly talking about Marty Brodeur and Bernie Parent here. They all have a good shot at being good goalies in the playoffs, but we won't know until it happens.

You're not wrong in your assessment of Price, but you guys are overrating Huet considerably. I actually had to re-read the trade ticker, just to make sure Huet wasn't actually traded to the Bruins.

You betray your ignorance by calling Price a back up. In fact he has never been a back up nor has he had to compete for a starters job as he has at every other level proven him to be 'that good'. As a prospect, any hockey mind will tell you he is the highest rated amongst goalies - even more highly regarded than your precious Rask...

I do recall that the Habs have in the past had a fairly high degree with a couple of other rookies... Penny gave them a pretty good run one year... as did another couple of guys.... can't remember their names right now though...[/b]

Why would they over rate huet I'm wondering.... I hope the Caps play the ruins a couple more times this year though...

You're right... It's mathematically impossible for the Habs to face the Bruins in each of the four rounds of the playoffs.

The Montreal media puts Price ahead of Rask. In reality, Rask has been, and continues to be, the superior prospect...

The Boston media is fairly objective when it comes to goalie prospects...

Ryabchikov
Lacher
Blue
Casey
Carey

We've had our share of flameouts and then some...

Not the montreal media, the majority of the hockey media - the hockey news, tsn, sportsnet, si, foxsports, espn Hockey futures... the list goes on dude. don't homer up... Mckeens (sp?)

They all say that the only one who could possibly be close to price is rask...

The Hockey News ranks it Price (top prospect, goalie or otherwise), Bernier, Rask, then Mason before a big drop off.

Which means nothing, of course. Bernier is ranked 1 spot above Rask (10th and 11th overall in terms of skaters and goalies combined).

Rask spent the previous two years developing at a higher level than Price but since turning NA pro it's no contest... Price instantly became the best player in the AHL and made the NHL right out of training camp for a team that is in a playoff spot and challenging for the division lead (1 point out after last night, thanks Boston for shutting out the reeling Sens, BTW).

Honestly, razz, how many times have you actually watched Rask play?

As Razz and Quad eluded too I think the Habs ejaculating Huet was premature. I would certainly hope the Ghost of Dryden and Roy have your backs.....but I for one doubt it and it certainly pleases me. That would have to be some serious magic in Montreal.

IMO they are a group of overachievers led by a Fragile Finn, an enigmatic Russkie and an angry pair of New Yorkers. Tossing their starting goalie for most of the season reeks of overconfidence in their overachievement.......I think its a mistake bottom line and even a lucky post-season from Price won't change that.

Rask has been doing just fine in the AHL. It's not his fault our prospects are vastly superior to what Montreal has, and that unlike Price, he hasn't had to stand on his head... yet. Price has also been hot and cold in the NHL, the Bruins have wisely kept Rask in the AHL but for a couple of games...
