Regular season matchup #686 between the two clubs in history, and seven more to go this season alone. The rivalry that never dies.
Bryan Smolinski will play his 1000th NHL game, fittingly enough, against the team that drafted him 21st overall overall in 1990, and for whom he played his first NHL game in March 1993. Alex Kovalev, meanwhile will suit up for his 999th career NHL game.
As razz has made sure everyone on this board has known, the Bruins are off to an impressive 5-2 start under former Montreal Head Coach Claude Julien's guidance. They've also gotten strong goaltending from Tim Thomas in particular, while Manny Fernandez is coming off a shutout performance as well.
Expect another 1 goal game in this one... the Habs have shown early in the season they can play with anybody and dominate nobody. _________________ It's backwards time. |

Habs up 1 after one.
Higgins playing well.
I like the way Streit and Hamrlik pass the puck out of the zone. And Breezer if he has time to set up and isn't thinking about making cross ice passes in the offensive zone. _________________ Beat my drum down in Mexico! To Tijuana, Tijuana here we go!

Despite the shot count, Montreal has had more pressure in Boston's zone, and both teams are around even in scoring chances.
Boston has a lot of talented young players in the lineup, and there are going to be growing pains. _________________ Beat my drum down in Mexico! To Tijuana, Tijuana here we go!

Hamrlik is amazing. Either he's getting points and making quick outlet passes, or you don't hear from him at all because he's playing impeccable defence.
Markov-Komisarek-Hamrlik-Streit have been devastating this year. They rarely get beaten and they have good speed and hands to kick start the offence.
Kovalev has really backed up his words this season. He's slowing the game down when he has the puck, but this time he isn't holding on too long or making ill-advised passes.
This team is going to infuriate us all again, because as great as they've been the last two games, only a week ago they were taking stupid penalties and showing no hustle. Hope they can maintain the kind of speed and physicality they were displaying today.
Marc Savard proved his 95 points do come with a price - he takes a lot of bad penalties. _________________ Beat my drum down in Mexico! To Tijuana, Tijuana here we go!

My main concern was his knees, but truthfully he's a far more steady defender than anyone has given him credit for. _________________ Beat my drum down in Mexico! To Tijuana, Tijuana here we go!

Frankie Bouillon was +3 today. He's been solid I must admit. He and Breezer can be decent if we keep them at around 15 minutes or less. B got 18 because the Bees were out of it fairly quickly, so I expect him to play less next game. _________________ Beat my drum down in Mexico! To Tijuana, Tijuana here we go!

For all the accolades, I still see Markov making uncharacteristic plays in his own zone, a lot of bad reads and getting beat on the boards around the net. He'll get it all together, but right now Hamrlik has definitely been our top blueliner.
But that Markov goal is his bread and butter. He's had some shots blocked this year at the point so he just uses his patience to wait for the blocker to drop, skate around him and shoot it top corner short side.
Plekanec and Kovalev now have mad chemistry. What a difference a year makes.
Breezer still has his PP smarts on, there were two excellent back-door pinches when the B's were overloaded due to Plekanec & Kovalev drawing them out. The second pass lead to his goal.
Chara is a big dumb oaf. What a "noble warrior" move by him after Komi lands a clean hip/ass check on Sturm. Chara comes up to defend Sturm... by cross-checking Komisarek from behind. Chara finished a -3 and had also took a penalty by hauling down Dandenault when Chara couldn't hold the zone. Dandy flipped the puck up to Smolinski while on his ass and Chara beside him on the ice and Grabovski got his first NHL goal on the ensuing 2 on 1.
What the fuck happened to Chara anyways?
I like the B's young gun line of Lucic-Kessel-Krejci. I forgot Julien will do this type of thing... he did have a 2nd line of Dagenais-Ribeiro-Ryder for us. _________________ It's backwards time. |
