Like Nate Clements' deal, most of the money in Samuel's deal is in the first 3 years ... which means the players (or their agents) are finally wising up

Almost makes it easier for the teams to cut ties with players without taking a huge cap penalty on unpaid bonuses.

Quote:
Or how bout a receiver who wont drop balls and disappear mid year?

a LOT of big name receivers are UFA's ... including ALL of the Pat's receivers
with the exception of Wes Welker

link to list http://www.nfl.com/freeagency;jsessionid=CBA6154D74F8173EB2EC34DE835A9C8F

Some typos and factual errors on the list, but it's to be expected
For one I thought the Raiders top corner Nnamdi Asomugha was a UFA and would be franchised, but I didn't see him on the list

Well, at least not all the rats have fled the sinking ship Laughing

Pat's re-sign Moss

I'll believe it when I actually see it...reportedly Favre has decided to retire.

Shefter on the NFL network was linking Fav-ra's decision to the Packs ability to sign Moss (enticing Favre to play another year)

I personally thought that was a bunch of crap, but that's just me Laughing

Seahawks sign TJ Duckett. They want their version of Jerome Bettis.

I liked him alot coming out of Atlanta , I thought he was one of those guys buried in the depth charts. In washington , Portis goes down , he's given the ball.. and didnt drop it.. just didnt do anything with it. He did nothing last season ... I dont know what he has left or what he can actually do. The good news is the NFC West isnt known as the most punishing Defences.

Still like to see an upgrade on Maurice Morris

they also signed TE , ex Bronco , Putzier.. I assume he is a decent run blocker.

oh yeah , we lost my favourite kicker , Josh Brown. TO the Rams. 5 year 14M

I forgot Seattle needs a new kicker too.

He's not bad, but his main upside is as a pass catcher. He was one of Jake's favorite targets when the two played together here.

We lose Javon Walker to the Raiders for a ridiculous amount of money. Yeesh, I don't blame the Broncos for letting him go for THAT much. He'll likely spend the majority of that contract sitting alongside JeMarcus Russell on injured reserve. Don't get me wrong, I like Javon, but he isn't worth anywhere near that amount. Even though he's going to the enemy, I wish him the best, his time in Denver will unfortunately be best remembered by the Darrent Williams shooting.

I wouldn't mind the Broncos making a run for Warrick Dunn. I think he'd excel in Shanahan's zone blocking system. But first, gotta make sure that O-line is up to snuff.

I've heard whisperings that Tony Dungy is interested in Warrick
What a 1-2 punch that would be....

the Baileys are re-united :
http://www.nfl.com/freeagency/story?id=09000d5d80711686&template=without-video&confirm=true

any thoughts, Av?

Also, the Titan's re-signed the Freak

http://www.nfl.com/freeagency/story?id=09000d5d80711b4f&template=with-video&confirm=true

Big drop in pay for him, but still seems like a lot of money for a situational pass rusher

Wow, didn't know Champ had a brother in the NFL...if it has the same affect on Champ that calling Sergei up had on Andrei Kostitsyn I'm all for it. And it sounds like he'll fit right in...we need a lot of help at linebacker with Al Wilson gone.

Seattle signed Julius Jones! perfect! a little injury prone but when healthy he's a stud , not sure about his blocking but not too great catching like Alexander and because of his fragility wasnt used alot in the red zone, I assume they'll use him like they did in Dallas and Barber III = Alexander. If they use the RBBC they have the horses to do so now. I would still like to see them draft a RB with their 2-3 rd pick.

There's even hint that if Seattle can land RBs Jonathan Stewart or Rashard Mendenhall in the 1st rd that they could cut Alexander. But thats just early speculation on what to do with Alexander.

Alexander still has 6 years left on his contract, and I'm assuming it came with a humongous bonus, so that's a HUGE cap hit to cut him

I'm guessing they will ask him to restructure his deal, as his trade value is squat right now. Question: who the hell signs a 28 year old running back to a 8 year contract?

And Jones was a better receiver in Dallas than you're giving him credit for
IF not for the fact that they just signed TJ Duckett, I'd say Jones replaces Morris as the relief back
But signing Duckett AND Jones is very telling ...

Holmgren has always been a great coach, but as a GM his skills leave much to be desired. It's why the Microsoft dude took a big chunk of his power away a couple years back by hiring a GM.

Larry Fitzgerald basically ends his NFL career.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7899730?MSNHPHMA

Seriously I think, like the L.A. Clippers, the Chicago/St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona/Godknowswhere Cardinals are just destined to suck no matter what they do or spend.

They might be destined to suck, but Fitzy has done quite well there
He's effectively taking a pay cut with this contract though
I suppose that's better than being released for cap reasons though
One note: Fitzgerald didn't start putting up numbers last season until Warner became the starter...Leinart has already been named the starter for this upcoming season ... how soon until Fitzy starts regretting the deal?

wow, at this stage in his career, I don't know that Isaac Bruce is an upgrade
They are eating Jackson's remaining bonus (if any) to save 1 mill by replacing him with a receiver 6 years older....

I wonder if Jackson will be getting a call from Bill Belichick Laughing
If he's willing to sign for half of that 4 mil, I'm sure there's room for him

Raiders got DeAngelo Hall for a second round pick Surprised
About a month ago there was a guy on Patriots.com saying if the Raiders would go for it, he'd send them the 7th overall pick right now for Hall
Other than the obvious flaw in the plan of signing him
7 years-70 mil wow
Raiders already had two very good corners, I wonder if they'll be looking to move one of them...Asomugha IS franchised, so that complicates that
Where are the Raiders coming up with this cap-room?
(JaMarcus Russell, Asomugha, now Hall - plus a top first rounder this year)

DJ Hackett signed with Carolina , they brought back Muhammed , they have a solid recieving core with Steve Smith.

D-Jax should follow Muhammed and go back to where he was comfortable.
