Best part about the top line's play last night was the freedom it afforded Hejduk. He plays his position well, but him and Tanguay regularly switched from left to right wing and without him, Hejduk's always looked a bit stifled. Last night I saw Forsberg doing a lot of work down low in both corners and that afforded Hejduk the opportunity to flow freely higher in the zone on both sides of the ice.
Laraque? Meh...surely you can do better than that.
Surprised Raymond didn't get to play, especially considering his play in the last contest between these two teams. Shannon was the one who sucked in the last game, but he was solid this time around, though he still to me at least seems to be struggling defensively with Vigneault's system.
Yeah Nonis probably should have gotten a viable scorer to help out the offense...but the question is, who? |

That was more in response to how Pilsbury Dough-boy soft this team as it is currently comprised, looks down the stretch.

The sad thing is that this summer's UFA crop looks pretty dismal... Marian Hossa is about as good as it gets.

Marian Hossa is pretty good, though. It's not often a player of that quality hits UFA.
At least you aren't looking for a d-man on the open market this time around... the pickings are mighty slim this year. Wingers are the closest to a bumper crop you'll find of any position.

I don't doubt that, but his asking price will be near the cap max given that the supply for a scoring forward is limited...

Well, you guys would be a team that could fit that in, what with Naslund and Morrison being dropped from the books and an ability to spend to a $60m+ ceiling. Although it could hurt in re-upping the Sedins down the line.

This one was clearly offense. (Well I didn't see it, if they never got possession that would also be a defensive issue, but I'm guessing it was more offensive ineptitude). But to say that they always lose -- or even most of the time -- because of their offense isn't accurate, as they are built under a capped system as a defensive team, and that's supposed to be their strength. They obviously don't have a ton of offensive talent. But when you break down the numbers (as I did on HFBoards) you see that in games they've lost, the defense has slipped more below its average than the offense has. The team is built to win games despite not scoring goals. It would be nice if they could do both, but since they can't, you have to hope that they can win on their strength. |
I believe this is true about the vast majority of NHL teams it doesn't really speak to the Canucks specifically. 2 -- the offence in the 2nd half needs to improve & talent wise may not be able to do so.It is imo the struggling offence that will cost the team the trip to playoffs because the D may play as well as can be expected but the O is on the decline due to the playoff nature of most games.I mean other teams D are picking up their game & our offence cannot.
