Avs blank the Flamers at home 2-0. Looked really bad when they very nearly suffered the ultimate hockey humiliation, a short-handed goal given up on a 2-man advantage. Thankfully Jose was on his game all night.
I'll say this about the Flames...for all the "discipline" Iron Mike is supposedly infusing this team with, the Flames shoot themselves in the foot at the most inopportune times. Even Iginla took an immensely stupid penalty against Jeff Finger (unfortunately the Avs couldn't capitalize on the resulting power play). Same goes for Phaneuf.
Oh well, gift horse and all that. Avs keep hanging on. I'm still very disconcerted with how sloppy they look at both ends of the ice, and at present Smyth looks completely lost out there. But I suppose so long as Jose continues to play at least solid in goal we have a chance... |
