| Well, he has no skill and won a Cup, so yes, he would know what he's talking about. |

I assume Staal and Brind'Amour aren't on his Christmas card list if he believes that headline. _________________ It's backwards time. |

I think Ward's purposefully forgetting that Edmonton, that year, had Pronger, Peca, Specek and the like. When those guys; with league wide recognized talent, left, Edmonton's fortunes slipped beneath the waves. They played a team game that year, for sure, but thay also had talent. _________________ "The greatest victory a man can win is victory over himself."

And I'm not saying this to knock the Bruins. The Bruins are a good team, but I don't see the similarities with Edmonton beyond a Pronger/Chara comparison. Edmonton was a speed team, Boston is a tough, character team.
If anything, Ward should compare the Bruins with the Hurricanes team that went to the Final in 2002. They played a team concept and found different ways to beat different teams, never counting themselves out of a game. They used a size advantage and limited scoring sources to make a good run. _________________ It's backwards time. |

Ward also guaranteed the NY Rangers a Cup when he signed there. _________________

So when exactly does he say that "Skill teams don't win cups"? _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

No, see, the article I read says that he said:
"Realize there have been a lot of skilled teams that were eliminated in the first round,” Ward said. “In years past, Buffalo was expected to make it, Ottawa was expected to make it year after year.
“It just doesn’t seem to always be that (sort of) team. It’s the team that maybe had great chemistry, balance, momentum. There’s all kinds of factors that go into it.”
Earlier, he compares the Bs to the Oilers... Well, actually, the Oilers didn't win the cup that year, either, so "winning the Cup" wasn't the point... I think his point was that teams with skill don't always make it to the finals...
As for skilled teams being eliminated in the first round, hey, eight skilled teams don't make it past the first round... That doesn't mean that teams that advance aren't skilled. I don't think he'd be foolish enough to suggest that a team that boasts Pronger, Niedermeyer, Selanne, Beauchemin, Getzlaf, Pahlsson, Giguere et al is bereft of skill...
For a lawyer, you sure read a lot into what people say... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

At worst I included a little hyperbole in my remarks. Big deal - your own GM claims you'll "contend" next year. Six of one... |
