I don't know much about Stamkos... is this a Lecavalier-class talent we're talking about, or might they trade down and let a more offense-starved team take him?

He's pretty damn good. I don't know how good, but they'd be dumb to pass him up for another Roman Hamrlik type 1st overall selection.
Tampa needs scoring depth as much as they need defence. They're actually WAY further ahead on their blueline than on their forward lines. Brad Richards was playing with McGill alumnus Mathieu Darche and Jan Hlavac for a lot of the year.
