Which will you be watching?

Unfortunately, and I do feel bad about this, I'll probably watch the CBC's broadcasts for the most part. If I'm home alone, I'll watch the RDS one, but I don't think I can convince my roommates or friends to watch it en Francais, even if the broadcast is vastly superior. I really feel more into the game watching it on RDS, and they seem to broadcast the crowd a lot better.

With Center Ice, are you not able to watch games on local CBC?

Non-Toronto CBC games that aren't nationally televised, I think. I don't know how many of them there are. I think Detroit-Ottawa was during the regular season...

Pierre Houde and Yvon Pedneault are as much a part of the team as the 20 guys on the ice. I'm sticking with the guys who brought us here.

Besides, I plan on watching the games at my favourite hangouts, with my fellow Montrealers. This is a spring to share with the people.

Wish I could be there. Sad

My boss is a Habs fan, but that'd just be weird. Laughing

And my dad's a Habs fan, but if I'm visiting him and the Habs are on, it'll be on CBC as well. Confused Call it a generation gap.

I can barely understand what the guys are saying on RDS but there broadcasts are just too good to let that be a distraction. Houde has a great voice as well.

Every game tonight is blacked out on Center Ice Online, but CBC is streaming their game online. Too bad the feed quality is garbage.

Looks like a lot of people are choosing RDS:

http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080411.wspt-truth-col-11/GSStory/GlobeSportsHockey/home

Quote:
Réseau des Sport's distribution countrywide (2.57 million households) is a mere 20 per cent of CBC Television's 13 million.

However, RDS outdrew the CBC for the Bruins-Canadiens opener on Thursday, 1.48 million viewers, compared with 1.186 million.

The RDS audience was its second largest ever for a Habs telecast. The last game of the 2006-07 regular season against Toronto Maple Leafs drew 1.531 million.

I take what I can get but those CBC punks are pissing me off. It's hard to believe that a Canadian station is so biased. Evil or Very Mad

Speaking as a non-fan who has been cheering for the Habs in the playoffs, I have to admit I don't really see the "anti-Hab bias" anywhere in the play-by-play or most of the special features of CBC. I do admit there is definately a pro-Toronto bias there, but unless the Habs are playing Toronto, the play-by-play seems pretty fair. Maybe I just aren't giving the Habs the credit they deserve myself, but still- I just don't see it.

Cherry would be an exception to the above, but then again he isn't exactly balanced about anything he talks about, and he really has never pretended to be; his segment has always been very clearly an opinion segment, and Cherry has never hid the fact that he is a fan of a few specific teams, like the Leafs or the Bruins, and that his commentary is skewed in that direction. I can see how it could be more than a little grating for folk who aren't Toronto or Bruin fans, especially when their team is playing one of those teams, but I do think there is something to be said for Firebrand, biased segments like Cherry, if only to contrast the cookie-cutter, bland "balanced" peices favoured by all the other sportstations out there.

Admittedly, the CBC probably should broadcast more Montreal and Ottawa games and less Toronto games, but nationally, the percentage of fans who will tune in for a Toronto game are probably higher than any other Canadian team, so ratings have to play a bit of a role there. But, based on how many times I had to watch the TO game on my computer because the Hab game was on, that is at least changing a little bit. Smile

I imagine, as Toronto spends the next year or five "rebuilding" near the bottom third of the league, things will become more and more balanced amongst the Eastern teams in terms of coverage.

Oh, and the Habs are 1-2 when I watch CBC so far this playoff. I'm watching RDS on Saturday.

Unfortunately, I didn't follow through on Saturday. But I'll add this:

RDS record: 3-0
CBC record: 1-3

Thanks for making my choice even more simpler. And I apologize for giving CBC so many chances.

Boom Boom Geoffrion, one of the greatest hockey players of all-time sir, died on the same day he had his number retiring ceremony at the Bell Centre. Instead of showing this incredible, heart-wrenching dedication to the inventor of the slapshot and a larger-than-life legend, the CBC showed a ceremony held at the ACC in honour of Tie Domi.

I will never forgive them for that.

Scott Moore's patronizing blog entry merely reinforces my beliefs.
