I recently had a Camry Hybrid for a week and I was fascinated with scoring Excellent on the driving meter! I am not sure if it was me being part of the Video game generation but I didn't care who was tailgating me or how slow I was going....only how I was going to raise my Tank Average.

I see I am not alone.

Quote:
in 2002, wayne bought a Toyota Corolla to replace the 1999 Nissan truck he had been using for his daily commute to the power plant. Online, he saw that "guys in Priuses were bragging about 44 mpg, and I was doing better in a Corolla." But it was driving his wife's Acura mdx that moved Wayne up to the next rung of hypermiler driving. That's because the suv came with a fuel consumption display (fcd), which shows mpg in real time. As he drove, he began to see how little things—slight movements of his foot, accelerations up hills, even a cold day—influenced his fuel efficiency. He learned to wring as many as 638 miles from a single 19-gallon tank in the mdx; he rarely gets less than 30 mpg when he drives it. "Most people get 18 in them," he says. The fcd changed the driving game for Wayne. "It's a running joke," he says, "but instead of a fuel consumption display, a lot of us call them 'game gauges'"—a reference to the running score posted on video games—"because we're trying to beat our last score—our miles per gallon."

Maybe it is due to being from the video game generation ... Laughing I have a MPG indicator on the Fusion in which I reset w- every fill-up & will sometimes drive very conservatively (almost like an ass) to see how good I can keep the MPG's ..... I'll get about 30 MPG when I'm tooling along at around 35 - 40 MPH w- the cruise on & flat'ish ground .... Kiss that good bye though w- stop & go traffic. I usually end up around 22 MPG overall.

Mad

I do have the indicator. If I knew how to change the display back to whatever it was before the car was serviced, rather than the mpg indicator, I would Laughing

Yeah my sweet Cobalt has one.
I can get about 30MPG with my daily driving, if I keep it at 70MPH on the interstate I get a little better mileage.

Yup! The sporty '09 Corolla was getting up to 35 MPG w- highway driving ...if not higher. I'm not so sure I buy that, but that's what it said though on the indicator. That's real impressive.

Beware, this car does not handle well going 85 MPH in gusty wind situations! Confused

Hmmm ...

Fuel Tank Capacity: 13.2 gal.; EPA Mileage Estimates: 27 mpg / 35 mpg; Range in Miles: 356.4 mi. / 462 mi

Never put "sporty" and "Corolla" in the same sentence again. Thanks in advance...

My old '89 LeBaron had one. Consistently got 23.5 in the city and 34 on the highway. What amazed me the most was the Distance Till Empty estimator. Twice, I made it the gas station with 1km to spare. Once, it hit 0 and sure enough, i had to roll to the pump. Awesome.
