This is the type of thing that really gets Canadians into a stir -- you can bet this will be endlessly debated and involve intervention at the federal executive level:

Curtis Rush wrote:

Hockey Night in Canada’s signature theme song may have been heard for the final time on CBC last night, says the composer of the song dubbed “Canada’s second national anthem.”

The licence agreement to use the song expired with the final game of this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, according to statements posted this week on the website hockeytheme.com

On the website, Copyright Music and Visuals president John Ciccone says CBC has advised his company, which controls use of the song, and composer Dolores Claman that it is not prepared to sign a new agreement.

I thought "Keep On Rocking in the Free World" was our alternate anthem.

CTV aquires the rights to the hockey theme.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=240196&lid=headline&lpos=topStory_main

It will be used on TSN and RDS.

How long until they get the Saturday night rights?

The CBC is run by business retards. They have NO f'n clue. None. Mad

Their signature product has a theme song more recognizable than the national anthem and they PISS IT AWAY. Someone ought to lose their job.

The only reason it happened was because of the lawsuit that went unresolved. I think it was pretty clear that the composer wanted to hit the open market with it and negotiate with CBC only when in competition with CTV, which was a losing proposition for CBC.

definatly sacrilige.

SHame on CTV to try and buy something thats not theirs, do they really think that they can take over the HNIC theme song as their? i wouldn't have touched that with a ten foot poll if i was a tv station. they are not going to gain anymore viewers.

lame!

Scott Moore is really living up to his reputation of being a nice guy/big dope.

He totally mishandled the Montreal market thing, the Bob Cole situation, the HNIC theme song, and his major coup - paying national money for Toronto FC games - has totally blown up in his face. I think the Ceeb also lost the CFL on his watch.

I feel bad for the guy, but he's in way over his head. A loyal Ceeb foot soldier, but clueless when it comes to a competitive environment.

Can't blame Scott for that one. That was before his arrival, and CTV placed a massive bid the Ceeb couldn't match. No shame in that.

Wonder what CBC turned down when it was only them negotiating? With out that info I reserve judgment as I can see how the CTV deal is too much for CBC.

Sucks.... but hey still beats living with communism.
