The Georgia Straight is confirming this (yes, I'm linking the Straight for hockey news).

Quote:
Exactly 20 years to the day after Linden was drafted 2nd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in 1988, the popular forward will announce his retirement from the Canucks and the National Hockey League. The official word will come at 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Sadly, I'm not sure where exactly he'll go now. The PA apparently doesn't want him, I don't think the Canucks front office is a good fit, so...

I can see Linden getting back into the WHL as a part owner and maybe somewhere in management.

Oddball memory of him for me was I kept track of his helmut changes. He broke into the league with a standard CCM , year 2-4 he wore the Messier Cooper style helmut then it was 94 he switched to the modern Cooper style. Then somewhere between Keenan and returning to Vancouver he's been wearing the latest model. Never wore the visor , cant even recall if he put one on for a temporary injury. My memory is horrible now but if memory serves me right he wore #41??? in his rookie pres season , a true Linden lover will know.

Another oddball memory , not with him but with his wife. You guys remember the crazy stabber stabbing random people , then eventually threatened Linden's wife. Yeah that whole ordeal. Nutz. It was during the summer of 93? the time frame is getting vague.

On ice memory aside from the obvious 94 memories and Keenan drama... his 7 game performance vs the powerhouse Calgary Flames in 89 as an 18 yr old rookie is still probably one of the greatest performances ever in a Canucks uniform. He was argubaly the best player in the series. He hit the shit out of everybody in that series. If they gave out series MVPs he would've got it.

Not my favourite Canuck of all time but I have many great memories of him.

Full circle , Linden was drafted on June 11 , '94 game 6 was on June 11 ( the greatest Game in Canucks hstory) , and retires on June 11. Can we say June 11 is unofficial Trevor Linden day

This is actually the second retirement for Linden, because he didn't play hockey from 1999-2001.
