The article suggests that the Old Guard of NHL GMs have it out for GMMG, between his getting the max for his clients as a player-agent, and more recently, supplanting a 'made man' in DN...
IMO, there may be some truth to this, but I'm also inclined to believe that GMMG, for all his bluster really isn't dealing from a position of strength... His only tradeable assets are BXA, and probably less so now since the loss of Bourdon, and maybe the twins and a goalie prospect in Schneider. Naslund, and BMo are going the UFA route, and the core of their d have NTCs. Kesler is a keeper, and Luongo is not going anywhere. He didn't want OJ after all, and he didn't have the assets to attract Cammalleri and or Tanguay (not that he'd want any part of the latter).
He went into the weekend hoping to make some noise - he didn't but then again, he didn't really want to give up draft picks (and he didn't). Chances are, he'll overpay to sign UFAs (as will 29/30 clubs ) but he'll have to to stay in the game. And he'll have to rely on those relationships he's had with players as their agent to attract them... So I guess I expect to see the likes of Demitra, Naslund and Holik in Canuck sweaters this October. I don't think we'll get Hossa, Malone, or Sundin. _________________ ...
