Whoa, that wasn't my idea. Johnson is a defensive specialist, and Wellwood is only good for his hands. Ergo, you don't want Johnson on a scoring line and Wellwood as your 4th line center.
I also don't expect Hansen to be in the lineup. If no other changes are made, I would think something like:
Sedin / Sedin / Bernier
Raymond / Demitra / Wellwood
Burrows / Kesler / Pyatt
Hordichuk / Johnson / Pettinger
I think Cowan will be cut loose one way or another.

That sure won't happen if he's on the 4th line, though. Kind of the Ryan Shannon problem.
Likewise, if Pettinger plays on the 4th line, I predict much whining from the fans as to why he isn't "that 16-goal player anymore". Even though, you know, he's on the fourth line. (I can't help but notice that a lot of fans don't really understand scarcity and think that it's somehow possible for any player to reproduce a career high in any circumstances.) _________________

Here's where taking a page out of Detroit's book may be an idea. If he can't compete as a second-liner(being that matched against a scoring line, he's a liability, or matched against a checking line, he's physically unable to compete), give him 4th-line even strength minutes where he isn't on your top-checking line nor fighting through a checking line a lot, and throw him out for PP time. Worked wonders for Jiri Hudler this season. Though Hudler was in better shape for sure That may be a tougher sell for the Nucks who don't have the same scoring depth.
And Ryan Johnson can't be on a scoring line. No hands. At all. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

If Johnson is a defensive specialist, then why not put him on the right with Kesler and Burr?
Raymond / Demitra / Pyatt
Burrows / Kesler / Johnson
Cowan / Hordichuk / Pettinger
(Rypien/Shannon)
Or if Wellwood gets his act together:
Demitra / Wellwood / Pyatt
Burrows / Kesler / Johnson
Raymond / Hordichuk / Pettinger
(Rypien / Shannon / Cowan)
I think you need to put a big body with Demitra on that second line - who's going to fetch the puck for them? _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Here's another thought... What about bringing in Brendan Shanahan? Big body, right-handed, natural RW... He's still available and could bring some valuable experience and leadership. Sure he's long in the tooth but... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

| Rick Ball read my email again! I was the guy who asked for the stoner alien clip and made fun of a previous caller who suggested trading the Sedins for Gaborik only to have the Sedins still be line 1A lol |

Wellwood is even more useless on the wing than at centre.
Why does everyone insist on using Demitra as a C? He's a natural winger, and in my recollection had his best years on the wing.
If everything works out well, then Demitra should be playing RW, and Wellwood's your #2 centre. That's if he gets his ass in gear. If he can't play C, he shouldn't play at all. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? No guarantees on Demitra... But given the lack of skill on the forward corps, I'd consider it a mistake of monumental proportions if they blew this negotiation...
Plan B is to put Demitra at C if Sundin doesn't sign... But I think he played best at wing. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Kind of like Brunnström.
For what it's worth -- and that is in the eye of the beholder -- numerous unofficial sources are reporting a done verbal (at least) deal on $4 million average over 3 years. This includes a Slovak newspaper.
edit: Ah, I see that's actually in the article. _________________

I'm not sure whether I should be happy or pissed off if that is the announcment,I think I'll just have to wait and see how it all pans out,If we do happen to get both Demitra and Sundin than who knows we may actually get better,This fucking season or offseason if you will is confusing the hell out of me |

If Gillis brings us Sundin he will have surpassed Nonis as a GM in his first few months. _________________ Oct 7 4:29pm Hockey - Pending 20.00 to win 330.00

We'll see about that!Sundin is an old man by NHL standards,If he can produce good numbers than fine but if he tanks playing our defensive system than 10 million a year goes boom in our faces.I also put Gillis in the same category as Burke ,(opportunist)he comes in here with massive cap space where essentially Nonis had none and says look what I did look what I did where Nonis never had that opportunity.IMO It should have been AV getting the Axe and Nonis staying.Nevertheless,it's all water under the bridge now and I hope gillis makes it work for us |

I, too, wonder about the true impact that a Sundin signing might have. He may be a nicer guy, but the circumstances are remarkably similar to the Messier signing, but this time with a salary cap. I sure as hell don't expect 80-point seasons from a near-40-year-old adjusting to a new team, new environment, and defensive system. _________________

Demitra let some sort of feline out of a bag... he said Gillis promised him if its not Sundin it will be someone else (referring to a centre to play with)
The Sundin rumours took a 180degree turn yesterday , the hype machine is back on track in Vancouver. I think what really pushed the hype machine over the top was John Shorthouse's vote of optimism whom is not one to get involved with rumours said up until yesterday he felt zero chance but after talking to two "good inside sources" he feels its 50/50 again. |
