I've not read the CBA and am not a labour law expert but I suspect attempts to suspend a guy with pay because you don't like the contract anymore is not going to get very far. Likely just speculation gone wild on the "stay home" part.

McCabe has the Leafs handcuffed. They can't assign him to the minors & have him riding the bus (i.e., what Jersey did with Malakhov & Mogilny) & then I read somethign about a grievence if they tell him to "stay home" ... Looks like the only movement McCabe can do is either on the ice or press box.

It would turn into a royal pain in the ass for the rest of the team if they have him hanging around in a practice jersey all season.

Mad

Unfortunately his agent has all but publicly challenged Cliff to buy him out, which is the smart business choice for McCabe. The unfortunate part is Fletcher no likely feels the need to show how big his balls are and at all cost not give in and buy him out.

Trade Kubina, keep McCabe, hope to win next years Lotto.

If he's still feeling the same way in a year, the buyout is a lot less of a cap hit at that point. While contracts take an average of the entire term of the deal, buyouts only count for the amount remaining in salary. So, since McCabe's deal is frontloaded, buying him out of his last 2 years of the deal isn't bad as it could be.

It's just that he has to stick around for one more year to make it a palatable option.

That's what I'm saying too. Seems the most viable option. It's almost puzzling; but perhaps Cliff is trying to play up the value of Kubina by saying he wants to keep him & peddle off McCabe? One thing for sure, Cliff wasn't brought in to make friends & he is a smart business guy.

It's not the end of the world if McCabe does stay on the Leafs. JFJ did a horseshit deal from a management persepective. If he was making $3 mill per season however, he would be a bargin.

He can't play D worth a lick, but we all know he shines w/ the man advantage.

If it happens it would be the best job of being a stay-at-home defenseman McCabe's ever done.
