Interesting photo of him.
For a 2nd and a 3rd round pick. Uh... why Buffalo? _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

Ooh, I like this trade. My first thought on seeing the thread title was Jonathan Bernier, and I was thinking "WTF?!" _________________

Oh damn, they already changed the photo. It was of Argonauts receiver Arland Bruce. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

He'd make a pretty good power forward. _________________

I'm not sure Vancouver is the best place for him. He's a smart player and very skilled, but he has a bit of a lazy streak and needs to be prodded to play at a consistent high level (this dates back to his junior days). The Canucks don't really have much leadership right now with Nazzy and Linden gone, so I'm not sure he'll have that veteran presence pushing him.
That being said, in his early Sharks days he looked hungry and like he had figured things out. Ron Wilson had an irrational hate-on for him and Carle so both struggled last season, but Bernier looked refreshed in Buffalo.
Is he a great locker room guy? Not really, but I can't see why he can't score 30 in a full season, with or without the Sedin's help. _________________ John McCain is fit as a fiddle… Is 71 the new 30?” - Fox News' Rich Lowry

Gillis is cornering the market on pudgy out of shape forwards. Vancouver keeps trading their draft picks for other teams' busts. How a pure goal scorer like Steve Bernier will thrive with AV is beyond me. AV will probably get him and Wellwood in shape, but performance?
On the other hand, if they room together there could be one helluva room service bill |

When he first came up at the end of the 2005-2006 season he looked great, was on a line with Marleau and Michalek and they dominated. So of course the next season coach RW hardly ever played them together and Bernier was big time in his doghouse and never really recovered, although he shined for a while on a energy line near the end of 2006-2007 season.
He is fast and can score and can hit and is tough and will stick up for teammates. I like him and don't know if his lazy rap is legit or was due to RW messing with him. Anyway even if he is lazy he's young so maybe getting sent to his third team will wake him up. I think he's a great pick-up for Vancouver, but does come with a question mark. _________________

| If Taylor friggin' Pyatt can pot 23 with the twins, Bernier can do 30. |

This is gonna be my last 20 days of being able to "question" the Sedins so ....
I dont question Bernier being able to score 25-30.. hell , I dont question the Sedins ending up with their 75-80 pts , maybe more if Bernier pots a couple. I question if Bernier can play in the last 10 reg season games at a higher level and continue to raise it into the playoffs when needed. Thats what I want to know caz we know his linemates cant. |
