More injuries
Quote:
Nathan Paetsch did not skate with the team and was having X-rays on his leg contusion suffered when he crashed into the boards Saturday night. Ruff said Paetsch is questionable for Monday's game and Mike Weber could be recalled from Rochester if Paetsch can't go.
Henrik Tallinder (shoulder), Steve Bernier (groin) and Mike Ryan (groin) all sat out practice with injuries, as did Tim Connolly (hip), who was taking a scheduled day off.

Nathan Paetsch (leg) is apparently ok to play tonight. Bernier (groin) is probably going to sit again. Tallinder (shoulder) is out still also.

Just received a text update from the Sabres. According to Ruff both Sissy Spacek and Dmitri Kalinin are out for weeks.
Don't have any details. _________________ I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Text message updates:
Mike Weber (d) called up from Rochester. Paetsch questionable. Pominville will play D if Paetsch is a no-go. _________________ I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

I'm not going to bother with a GDT. Paetsch got hurt again. He has a concussion. That's 3 defensemen out. _________________ I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Probably a good idea. Philly lost two against the Leafs and the Sabres still lost ground. _________________ Beat my drum down in Mexico! To Tijuana, Tijuana here we go!

Sabres limping down stretch
Quote:
Nathan Paetsch joined Dmitri Kalinin and Jaroslav Spacek on the out-for- weeks list when he suffered a concussion after taking a fierce elbow to the chin from Pittsburgh’s Georges Laraque with 17:26 left in the second period. Paetsch was out cold on the ice before getting up and wobbling off.

TEPPO!
Quote:
BUFFALO, NEW YORK (TICKER) —Buffalo Sabres defenseman Teppo Numminen may be nearing a return to the ice.
The Buffalo News reported that Numminen arrived at HSBC Arena on Tuesday with his equipment and was scheduled to skate with the club.
The 39-year-old defenseman has been on the team’s suspended list since undergoing open-heart surgery in September.
Numminen skated with the Sabres in December and January, but left the team January 10 after doctors advised him his chest cavity was not healed enough to withstand game play. They advised him that him he should not return until mid-March, six months after the surgery.
In addition to the heart surgery, Numminen had a bursa sac procedure on his ankle last month and had not been with the team since.
“I hadn’t seen him at the rink for quite some time,” Sabres coach Lindy Ruff told the newspaper. “He had the procedure on his ankle, and that looks a lot better.”
With nine games to play, the Sabres (34-28-11) entered Tuesday one point behind Philadelphia (35-28-10) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Ruff did not speculate when asked if Numminen’s appearance Tuesday meant he could be back for the stretch run.
“Until we’re done with this evaluation, I’m not even going to comment on that,” he said.
A second-round pick of Winnipeg in 1986, Numminen recorded two goals and 27 assists in 79 games with Buffalo last season, his second with the club. In 1,314 career contests with the Winnipeg-Phoenix franchise, Dallas Stars and Sabres, the Finn has collected 115 tallies and 620 points. |
