To be fair, there's not a really strong intrinsic link between labor organization and veganism.

speaking of OUellet , Canucks also can notch off one more stud off that coveted 99 draft , in fact Beech and PYatt went 7-8. Go get Jaime Lundmark now and complete the 7-8-9 line which also serves as the punch line to a kids joke.

I like his size; defensively responsible - perhaps they'll line him up alongside Kesler and Burrows to put more beef on that checking line... Makes it possible to trade Cooke. With the amount of time he's had in the NHL, he may be more Jason Jaffray than BMo though... I don't mind this pick up at all, and at the price (half of $585k), it's good insurance in case BMo doesn't heal up quickly enough, or if they need to send Jaffray back to Manitoba.

It's all of $585k... they weren't re-entries.

That's his full salary. Still, when the league minimum is something around that amount, it's a pretty low risk...

Oh sorry, that's what Linger meant by half... I thought he was referring to re-entry waivers. Don't mind me. (I know you all never do).

The guy is from Sicamous... Is this a conscious effort to bring back BC boys? Or is that coincidental?

It's probably a factor insofar as they're hoping it might be reason for rejuvenation. But the closest the Canucks have ever come to actually going after British Columbians is when Pat Quinn collected large Albertans figuring it was close enough.

Some older BC guys like Baron and Bodger do have a habit of signing on in their twilight years, but I suspect that's as much them approaching the team as vice versa, to finish out their careers.

Speaking of BC boys, I had no idea Shawn Horcoff was one... it's always a crime when they end up playing for Alberta teams.

Yes. A crime. You working for a paper called "Le Journal de Vancouver" out of Hull?

Isn't Morrison a BC boy? I'd say he's spent his best years in BC.

I'm sorry if my obviously facetious wording offended you. Laughing Me thinking it's generally a shame when BC's best and brightest end up specifically on divisional rivals killing the Canucks is not quite the same thing as only wanting my team to draft and sign local talent at the expense of the best players available as part of a political program (that would, of course, have Markus Näslund learn Cantonese). Wink

In other news, I was quite surprised to learn today that my firm had been acting for Aquilini in the ownership fiasco. I hadn't heard a mention 'till now (it obviously being the Vancouver office, not this one).

The Canucks have decided to demote Mason Raymond to the Moose in favor of Rick (ouch shit ouch!!) Rypien.

While I like what Rypien brings to the table,I think Cowan or Brown would be better demotees.
In my book Raymond has brought far more to the table than any of the other three Mad jmho

I agree , I cant believe Mike Brown is still here. Not a knock on him , its just they have a shit load of agitators/muckers and only one speedster in Raymond. How many of these type of guys does Vingeault want? Its like Vigneault has gone mad with the agitator/sand paper players!

we'll see where this madness is leading...

Canucks will iritate the Blues today , thats for sure...

AV heard y'all... Raymond is recalled while Rypien and Brown get sent back down. And against Detroit, I guess they want more skill and less grit in the lineup.

I guess Beech's goal has bought him a little more time. Why don't they send Isbister down? I mean it's not like any other team will pick him up off waivers at this point...

So the Little Québécoise's father has a friend who's an innkeeper in Saint-Simon, QC. He's an avid card collector and has a very impressive collection. The LQ's father asked his friend for cards of the original Canucks (O-Pee-Chee's cards for the 1970-71 season) and gave them to me as a gift, which was extremely kind.

The ones he gave me were:

André Boudrias
Ray Cullen
Murray Hall
Orland Kurtenbach
Wayne Maki (may he RIP)
Paul Popiel (the reason Hansen is the second Dane in Canuck history)
Pat Quinn (same haircut as 20 years later)
Marc Réaume
Dale Tallon

The Canucks hadn't played a game yet, so they're all merely posing for their pictures. What I found most hilariously awesome, however, is what was said in Dale Tallon's writeup. Note the first sentence, which is iconic in light of Canuck history:

I can scan a few more, sure... O-Pee-Chee's writeups on their old cards were always quite hilarious. "Steve has a wife named Carol and enjoys softball"... etc.

Tallon has pretty much the same haircut now, too.

I use to heart this stuff like crazy. I was apart of that boom between 89-91 , could care less for the modern crap but I still love looking at the classics.

That is a great team set for obvious sentimental reasons but it looks great too. The card design is clean and the pink background for the Canucks is awesome. I enherited the cards from that time period , its a great team set , Charlie Hodge , George Gardiner (the two goalies), Rosie Paiement , there's a couple more in there. Superb nonetheless.

I agree with J21 , the OPC write ups were awesome , esp the later sets that would accompany the write up with an animated picture , if it says " Dennis Kearns enjoys water skiiiing " there's a cartoon guy water skiing! lol

My personal favourite team set is the 84-85 OPC ( Neelys RC). It wasnt caz of Neely at all , they had great shots of everybody but in particular Richard Broduer , whom they used a pic from the 82 finals and John Garrett , an action shot making a save. Probably my two favourite Canucks cards of all time.

Great memories. Please post up the others , great flashbacks.

Apparently Brendan Morrison is going to be providing color commentary in the Canucks' radio broadcast in their upcoming game against the Kings.

Isn't that a bit of a conflict of interest? Is Morrison really going to say, "You know, we have one of the lamest power plays out there." Or "Matt Cooke really needs to work harder or he's going to find his ass waived."? Laughing
