As for them moving, Art Savage wanted a team in his hometown. It's a common misconception that they left because the stadium wasn't sufficient. Wrong - the stadium had been inferior to other AAA ballparks for years in terms of modern amenities, but that didn't bother the PCL. The team drew fine, it was a beautifal park, and MLB teams kept putting their top farm teams there.

Interesting, perhaps the stadium was a red herring to try to get public funds, then? Either way, it wasn't just the amenities, it was pretty much everything but the view. The difference between the Nat and other triple-A parks is definitely glaring.

That said, to get a team BACK, we'll need a huge upgrade to the Nat, including luxury boxes, way more seating, huge sponsorships... in short, in a city so inexpicably obsessed with the Canucks and getting back the Grizzlies, it will never happen...

Vancouver is no more obsessed by the Canucks (and not at all about a return of the NBA) than, say, Buffalo is about the Bills/Sabres, but they have a triple-A team with a nice park. Salt Lake City had the Jazz but still got the Bees, Indianapolis loves basketball but they have one, etc.

I think it has more to do with the level of interest in minor league baseball on an absolute level than any relationship with other teams. The Giants have had no trouble piercing the market, for instance.

who owns Nat Bailey? is it city owned like BC Place? ... Im shocked that BC Place is still called BC Place , they could make a couple bucks and sell the bloody naming rights.

Yeah you do have a point - it's really more the idea that Vancouver is a big time city, and we want a top level franchise. Sort of Toronto and the NFL vs. CFL issue...

The City of Vancouver owns the Nat. They'd love to tear it and BC Place down and put up 5 condo buildings on each site. But, with the Nat they'd be hauling people away in cuffs, and with BC Place they'd need an alternative venue for the Monster Truck Show Laughing

Here's a shot from my buddy's seats from the Beckham game. BC PLace in soccer form. I didnt go but my croation gf who lives for true football did , she has him on her "list" so she had the green light to hit it with him if she could. Everybody that I know who went had a blast for a 0-0 game.

I must admit though I spite him , he is very classy and smooth. He gave his jersey to a little girl in the stands after the game and the moment was priceless. He gave his other jersey ( he wore two game jerseys) to a terminally ill girl at BC Childerns Hospital.

Soccer on artificial turf in a domed stadium just seems so... so... wrong.

I'd love to see Luvah's list... my guess is that it includes the chick from "Small Wonder."

serously my list , it changes caz ( I need to update it) often the actresses stop working and disappear but the one I have in my wallet now

Gena Gershan
Zhang Ziyi

I cant believe how old that list is ,caz Im sure I verbally made a new one , that list was written on a old piece of paper tucked away in the bowels of my George Costanza wallet.

I just need to make a new official one I guess.

Esposito's still pretty damned hot. But you should have at least ONE Country-Western singer, and this is coming from someone who hates Country. And what, no Jessica Biel...?

Oh and for good measure since your g/f has a soccer star on her list you should lump in Hope Solo!

I was a little disturbed how outdated that was , its like seeing yourself in the mirror and realizing you've gained a couple pounds. So its not official yet caz I need to think about this more caz there's a bunch that Im completely forgetting about. Here's the leading 5 as of now

Olivia Munn
Zhang Ziyi
Kate Winslett
Beyonce
Gena Gershan , gotta have the 80 represented. This one is still active on my list.

I was going to post this in the prospects thread but its more retro but that thread reminded of a great draft in VAncouver...

thinking back to the 1990 draft that was held in Vancouver , BC Place which I attended. Vancouver had 2x1st rd picks(2nd overall , 18th ?) and a 23-24th overall pick too. So it was an exciting draft to attend for the Canucks. Looking back it was a deep and very good draft.

Canucks had 2nd overall , the big 5 was Nolan , Nedved , Primeau , Ricci and Jagr. Jagr would had been 1st overall but there was word he wasnt coming over for a few years. Everybody thought Quebec was going Nolan because they already had Sakic and Sundin. Personally for Vancouver I was hoping for Primeau but Nedved was good too , he was touted as Gretzky like. I still remember Nedved at his first camp , Jofa helmut and tucked jersey ,total 99 wannabee. I remember discussing this draft with my social studies teacher , Mr Whitakker , he too liked PRimeau. Really hyped draft for Vancouver for obvious reasons. But when Quinn announced Nedved , there was a strong pop from the crowd , great reaction for the T-bird.

Then the Canucks went size/toughness in the big man era , Shawn Antawski with their second 1st rd pick.. I had no idea who he was , just that he was called the Hulk in juniors.

Then Quinn goes son of a Bubla...Jiri Slegr. Whom I really liked watching develope and ironically if not for "losing" the Nedved arbitration case with St>louis that brought Vancouver an entire D pairing in Brown/Hedican , Slegr would had started in the 94 playoffs , he had played 70+ games that season.

Anyways , It was a fun draft to be at.

That draft overall had Broduer , Tkachuk , Derian Hatcher ,... really good draft.

That was a great draft (not our selections, but the experience) - I remember the reaction in BC Place when we announced Nedved. The first draft I ever watched.

Funny story about our second pick, Antoski. I remember hearing that some of the Canuck scouts were torn between him and Tkachuk, but Tkachuk was recovering from an injury and still on crutches - a bit too close to the situation a few years earlier when the Canucks drafted Woodley - who was a colossal bust.

Now, I was too young to know whether they same scouts were in place (they probably weren't), and I can't say this is fact and not folklore, but considering some of our first round picks over this era, I wouldn't be surprised.

thats painful to hear it was down to Tkachuk and Antawski , more painful to see Tkachuk and Broduer go right after Antawski.

JJ Daigneault was another notorius guy the Canucks drafted on crutches in '84 , broken leg , it was so fitting for the Canucks. It was so fitting , that cast and broken leg was a precursor of things to come for the team. The torture and pain that was to come in the coming months... years....
