Need to add some more neck protection. Got smoked up high by a couple of canons in the last week one of the mask chin and another around the collar bone and really has me thinking the dangler alone can not be trusted. Confused

i dont use a dangler at all. i stiched an old goalie neck guard on to the inside of my chest protector. haven't had any issues with neck shots at all since the addition. try it out. i'll take a pick and post it.

The Brown I'm wearing had a neck guard built in and cut it off as it felt really uncomfortable. Also had a Smith guard but couldn't stand the feel of it either. Going to order one of the Maltese Gel ones as many on the Goalie Store BB seem to swear by it for comfort and protection.

I'm butting in here, but I'm a beer league goalie too, and I wear a maltese gel clavicle/throat combo. It's awesome.

I've taken some righteous shots right to the clav and only come away with a minor bruise.

The guy that makes them is very cool, will work with you on specs and mods on your first purchase even, and they embroider your name or initials on the thing for free - which helped a buddy of mine one time when he left his in a dressing room.

I got rid of the dangler as fast as I could and I don't miss the noise, discomfort and the fact that it would rise up as I went up for high shots - leaving my throat/neck exposed.

Thought we had discussed this here.

Heart breaking loss to our nemisis Toronto. They score on us with 11 seconds left on a power play to win 2-1.

Even though we really did not play well we rang about 4 or so off the post, ( insert Chris 18 joke here)

We had a 5-3 for about 4 minutes in the 1st and could not score and then another 5-3 in the 3rd and again not even close.

We actually played better when killing penalties. Jeff anything to add?

looks like u needed to pop your head thru that neck guard. I cut the back of mine off so it just sits out front. Mine isnt joined at the back so I dont even feel it on.

Been a while since I posted here ... one more loss and two postponements (some football game on TV) since then....

We snapped the 3 game skid Sunday night against the Flames (7-2 win)
Our goalie canceled so I called a goalie from another team who's game was at 8:05 (ours was at 5:45) Surprisingly, he said yes, lucky for us
He then proceeded to play the 6:55 game for the Rangers (I also played in that game for the Rangers) Seemed there was a problem on the highway, and a lot of people weren't showing up...by co-incidence, I had to get off teh highway to get my skates sharpened, and took back roads the rest of the way, avoiding the problem I wasn't even aware of...

In our game, the Flames were getting frustrated and exceedingly cheap with their sticks as the game wore on. Near the end, one of them steamrolled over our center and took him down from behind. I promptly removed him from our center with extreme prejudice Laughing

I then backed up and waited for him to get up ... I had my gloves off already of course. It's been a long time since I fought, but it's like riding a bike. I figured he's either gonna square off (as I was already), or he's gonna be a poser and grab at jersey (maybe try a cheap punch)
or he's gonna totally puss out and just yell and scream
He chose option B, trying to save face I guess
Once he grabbed my jersey, I grabbed his right arm to prevent the cheapie
Someone already had my right arm, so I moved to prevent him from getting me with a left, as we continued the leverage dance.
Our helmets ended up falling off, amid the pushing and shoving.
As a ref and two players moved me back, he moved back as well (no one holding him)
As we moved away from the congregation, we were again facing each other out of the pile. I looked at him and said "No one's holding us now..."
He just sneered and skated towards his bench, muttering about ME hitting HIM from behind (never mind that he did just that to my center Laughing )

In the second game, I was trying to keep the puck in at the blue line and got steamrolled. My head was actually spinning for most of the first period after that...I couldn't really go off because I was the Ranger's 6th guy
I still feel like I've got whiplash ( the area under my neck between the shoulder blades is completely locked up, trouble turning my head to the right) I pretty much put myself in that position however by cutting in front of the guy coming out of his end, so I don't think it was cheap.
I doubt he even saw me till I was there bangin the puck back down deep
But FUUUCCCKKKK that hurt! Laughing

Laughing for getting whiplash trying to keep a puck in, or for getting in a shoving match earlier? Laughing

That sucks about the neck, Hip, but it's good that you stuck up for your teammate Very Happy

We lost last week, I think it was by a goal and we sucked again, if I recall correctly.

I played on Wednesday night sudding on D for my buddy's team and was playing a guy entering our zone. He wound up, I moved to the side to let my goalie see the shot and the dude still managed to shoot it right at me. Right in my inner thigh where there was no padding in my pants. I've got a giant purple welt on my thigh now Confused

Last night we pounded the team that we tied 0-0 the last time we played them. 6-1 shelling, and their goalie still played really well. We had 2 full lines and 3 D. My bro didn't have too many shots and the only goal that they scored came after a fucking ridiculous bounce over my stick at their blue line, the guy picked it up and made a nice move to beat my D partner and buried it 5-hole. I picked up my first A with a slap shot from the point going wide that my teammate deflected out of the air and in. Later on, I cranked my knee off the ice and limped to the bench. Of course, someone came for a change before I felt comfortable going back on the ice Laughing But on that shift, I pinched in the slot, got a pass and proceeded to ring a hard wrist shot right off of the goalies mask. Next play, I had another good chance right in the slot, screen shot along the ice that he managed to get a toe on but one of our wingers easily put in the rebound. It was a good game all around and nice to break out of the 3-game losing streak that we had(all 3 against teams in our division, this one against the Friday division), but we have to stop playing like shit against our own division.

Like deja vu, Bosc ( we also ended a 3 game skid ) Cool
As well as the inadvertent blocks, man I fucking hate when that happens Laughing
It's like "Dude, the fucking net is over there! How the fuck did you get me?"
Got one on my ankle Sunday, happens nearly every game, so I seldom mention them anymore...
But those shots on the thigh that leave the "sexy" purple tattoo are the nut Laughing
They hurt, but they're great for grossing people out Laughing
Sucks about the knee though

Yeah the bruise is a nice shade of purple and yellow right now Laughing

The knee is fine. I've banged the side of it quite a bit back when I was younger and was using pads that were too small. And playing ball hockey in small goalie pads. It was weird though because the day after I did it, the side was bruised but it didn't hurt. It was the lower front part that was sore Confused

The knees run in the family. My Mom's got bad knees(part of that is from being a nurse and being on her feet all the time, part arthritis and genetics). My brother has had one scoped. I had a problem with one a few years ago and had to get a scan done. Nothing came up but my knee on the left is a little pointier than the other Laughing

Good to hear the knee isn't serious

We got our asses handed to us tonight against a crap team we've never lost to
before tonight, that is ( if I recall correctly )
This is the team we beat 12-0 a few years back
When WE didn't have a goalie
They picked up a player or 3 from the Knights for tonight
(I heard the ref telling them after the game, 1 or 2 is ok, 3 is pushing it especially when you've got 10)

Doesn't matter...yes, those ringers made a difference
But we just flat out got outplayed, and not just by those 3 guys
too many turnovers in our end
once again, substitute goalie, who admitted he had an off game
(Though I don't think he let any soft ones in until the game was out of hand)
I think the other goalie made like 4 saves all night

No scorekeeper tonight, so running time
It was 6-4 (them) after 2 periods.
That was the last time any goals were posted
With about 4:30 left, I tried to call timeout, and the ref said
"you can't call timeout, it's running time"

Shocked This guy is smoking too much crack
It's running time because there's no scorekeeper, not because of any fault of the players...they stop the clock between periods, they can stop it for a T.O. ...... wtf!!!!!!!!!!
I just wanted to stop the clock, and maybe find out what the score was
The ref's like, " I don't know, I gave up keeping track"

fucking marvelous ...... Evil or Very Mad

EDIT: It wasn't a banner day for the men in stripes
not only did they whistle us for icing while we were shorthanded, they allowed a goal against us that was swatted down from going over the glass
The other team had like 8 men on the ice at one time, and one waiting to get on the bench got hit by the puck...automatic too many men, right?
I didn't even bother arguing, I was laughing too hard
