That sucks Hip. I thought you guys had a decent team when you had 10 skaters. Have some guys just quit?

It seemed that you guys were constantly smoking your opponents earlier on.

We were smokin' teams earlier on, although the first 6 games or so were in the tiering round. We played tough against everyone though, so this collapse has me dumbfounded.

We've only had 8 skaters all season and the 8th guy probably hasn't played 10 games. We're usually good to go with 7, but over a whole season....
It means our top center has played D a lot, and eventually the other top forward(s) start getting frustrated. Our top LW has missed the past 2 games, and I have my doubts he'll be back this week. He has been our best player all season (even though the center is certainly our best player in terms of skill)
I think you could count the times he's turned over the puck this season on one hand. I say LW, even though obviously he's played everywhere this season Laughing
I think not having lines eventually catches up with you

Anyways, good luck tomorrow night!

Thanks!

Wouldn't you want 10 skaters or 2 full lines though? Definately helps over thecourse of a full season.

The Barley Kings are the 2007-2008 CHAMPS!!

5-0 Victory Friday night against the Rangers, and even though I was fairly certain we would win, they gave us one hell of a fight and game, regardless of what the score says.

They were husling and moving, but the difference was our D, who were solid that it forced them to constantly dump and chase and we would continuously come up with the puck.

Just a solid effort from every player in the game and caps off an awesome season!

Yes it did. Cool

Actually it was the 2 young guys we got that really gave us 2 potent lines. Laughing

Awesome job guys, you deserve it!

Of course! We had several last minute defections, and were never able to come up with replacements (strange as that sounds)
We had quite a few guys say they were coming and never show up; play one or two games and not come back; and that 8th guy who played less than half the games, and bailed before the playoffs started

Anyways we had our core 7 last night, and despite a great effort our season came to a sudden horrible end ...as in sudden death

We once again lost to a team we would normally beat 7-1 ... I'm at a loss
We came out on fire, and only luck kept us off the scoreboard as we repeatedly either hit their goalie, the posts, or misfired.
Our D squelched most of their rush attempts, and our goalie made several phenomenal saves when freak caroms came right to their players.
Eventually we broke the ice, a nifty bada-bing-bang 3 way pass/tap in.
We had played solid for the whole period, even killing off a major penalty, but in the last minute a bad turnover in our end resulted in the tying goal. Mad

Another turnover early in the 2nd put us down 2-1, but we weren't panicking because we still were controlling the game. Puck possession was roughly 65% us in their end of the ice, but we still failed to finish.
We finally tied it on a disputed goal - their goalie stopped the initial rush, and while they applauded him, our top LW tapped in the loose puck.

We took the lead in the 3rd, and took control of the game.
They had flurries of dumping and cycling, but we kept their shots to the perimeter, and our goalie continued to gobble up everything that got through. My D partner must have blocked 12 shots/passes Laughing
Our lack of finishing continued however, our 2nd center being especially snakebitten. He must have had 6 pointblank unobstructed chances from within 5 feet. Post, pad, glass, etc.
Also, as our opponent continued to dump and cycle, fatigue seemed to plague a few of our wingers. They seemed content to dump the puck out even when they had open ice in front of them.
Nevertheless, we got into the final minute with a 3-2 lead (should have been 6-2 Evil or Very Mad )
They pulled their goalie, and my D partner just missed the empty net - icing.
Then we got down to their end, and the aforementioned snakebitten center missed the open net from just outside the circle Shocked

As they cycled in our end, everyone started to fall back in on our net, even as my D partner was screaming to get back in position. Bodies flying everywhere, I took down 2 guys 5 seconds apart, landing on the last one.
That was my vantage point watching the tying goal flutter in from the opposite side, with bodies lying everywhere....12 fucking seconds left Evil or Very Mad

In OT we had an extended possession in their end, passing around as if we were on a powerplay. Again, our opponent managed to get sticks in the way at just the right moment to avert disaster (for them)
It finally got dumped into our end, and....see above paragraph Mad
A bad ending to a really great game, what might be our last game as a team
I hope not, and most guys seemed receptive to coming back for the winter
As long as we have more guys....maybe a few more who can finish Laughing
(no knock on the snakebitten center, he was the one who said that)

Man, that sucks Mad

But if you get your core 7 back and you have the summer to find 3 guys who will COMMIT, you guys will be kicking ass again in no time.

Not to mention the massive goaltending upgrade Laughing

Yeah that was a solid effort from everyone on Friday. We were completely taking away their speed through the neutral zone and their shooters weren't getting many chances. Most of them were on the outside and Tim was there to stop the good ones. Everyone played a good, solid game.

Sounds like you guys dominated, though it was suggested the final was closer than the score indicated....
Despite how tough they played you, the 5-0 score is indicative of you guys collectively "having your shit together", to put it in technical terms Laughing

congrats again, I'm hoisting a brew at this moment in your honor!

I don't know if I'd say it was closer, it was really 4-0 with an empty netter. We just buried our chances and limited their good forwards to very few. They only had a couple of point-blank shots in the slot and their best shooter didn't get any clear attempts really. Just a great, solid all-around hockey game, as my Dad said.

The trophy is actually the one that we won at a tourney a couple of years ago Laughing

Lost the first round robin game 4-3. Everett, my buddy from work who played most of last year with us, got his back cut by a skate and had a 5-inch long but clean gash. He had to get stitches and couldn't play the rest of the tourney.

After the first game I got my skates sharpened and used the wrong measurement. They were waaaaaay too sharp. Couldn't slide much and almost bailed when I came out to play a puck, changed my mind and then pivoted. We won that game 6-3.

The semis was 9 yesterday with a bunch of hangovers from the night before at Darren's Laughing I hadn't gotten much sleep Friday night and was starting to get a cold. We destroyed the team we played in the semis like 8-2. After the game, Jack had to rush back to Milton for something at his church. Bruce also discovered that the heel part of the blade holder on his skate was busted. This was 10:15am, and we were going to play the Finals at noon. He had to buy a new pair, and we all know how much fun those are to work in period, let alone in the finals of a tourney.

Tony was nowhere to be found when the game started. We started with 8 skaters who had played 3 games already in 25 hours, many nursing hangovers. So we were down Tony, Everett, Jack and had Bruce on new skates and me on ridiculously sharp goalie skates, which does not lend itself at all to how I move around. Tony showed up during the second and Jack managed to get there with 5 minutes left in the third. We were down 4-1 after they got one early in the third, then roared back to tie it 4-4 in the span of like 2 minutes. Their goalie was amazing in the game too, but we were all tired and on a shorter bench, and they managed to get a wierd one for the win. There was a scramble in front and I don't know if I was bumped or something, but I ended up sitting on my ass with my legs in front of me, which is pretty much the worst position to be in. Puck went out to the point, the guy took a shot which I never even saw, and it went right along the ice past 2 guys, by me and in. That wasn't the only ackward goal of the tourney, that's for sure Mad So a cool comeback, but we couldn't finish it off. Just wasn't in the cards.

If we had won that game, it would have been hilarious. We played this same team in the Finals of this tournament 2 years ago. We were down 2-0 going into the third and Jack had gotten booted on a bogus call. Tim was amazing and we came back to win that game 3-2. Unfortunately, we couldn't repeat the feat Mad

Wow, sounds like if we had our full team and Bruce had his skates, we would have won. I guess Tim wasn't able to play.

Was Shawn there.

No, Shawn wasn't playing. Tim ended up having to work because people with more seniority booked the weekend off, unfortunately.
