My boy, R Alex Edler, continues to shine... +4 in a shutdown pairing with Mitchell. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

This is a fantasy ranking, so not entirely accurate, but still.....

4th overall isn't bad, especially with everything you here about Kane, Toews, Cogliano, Price, Gagner et al and with Edler missing 7 games. He's been looking great out there, and seems to keep improving.
BTW, I was a little surprised not to see Gagner on this list, then I saw that over the last 15 games he's 1-1-2 and a -8, with 1 shot or less in 8 of his last 11 games. |

21 yrs old and the kid is top 4 material right now. If he can develope a PP presence and a point shot , Edler is the total package.
If we do that 2004 draft again and Edler cracks the 1st rd easily, maybe top 10. Or if Edler played in a high profile JR system maybe he gets drafted 1st rd anyways.
He impressed me last year and the fact he's doing it again and better... he's the real deal.He definitely gives me wood with every passing game.
*edit , I probably just jinxed the kid ..my apologies.

How much of this is actually Edler and not Mitchell and AV's system? Last year, BXA had a breakout year playing alongside Mitchell, especially since Christmas.
Not questioning that Edler is playing well, but part of the credit has to go to the other players around him... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

| Personally I dont hold that against Edler.. he's 21 yrs old and playing tough minutes. He's legit , he's not on the 3rd pairing being spotted against the 3rd and 4th lines , Edler is going out against star players and winning one on one puck battles |

Absolutely. And when you do make a mistake, having someone like Luongo bail you out helps your confidence as well.
One person who doesn't get enough credit (IMO) is Bowness. He matches up the D, as has been great in the matchups lately. Bourdon was a +6 in his 9 games in large part because Bowness knew how and when to play him - same goes for Edler.
It also helps that guys like Edler, Bourdon or Weaver can play with solid vets like Ohlund, Salo, Mitchell or Miller. Guys who know what to do and can help the learning curve. |

I thought his point shot was pretty damn good already. This kid is our new Ohlund with slightly more talent I think |

yeah that Luongo guy sure helps guys look better ...
but I disagree with you guys generally in holding it against Edler. Sure it helps having Mitch out there , look no further than the Canucks D of the Future JJ Daigneault -MIchel Petit tandom of 1986 ...but nonetheless I feel Edler is deserving full credit for turning himself into an everyday NHLer. |

Edler deserves a ton of credit - if it was solely because of these other reasons anyone could have made this jump. Didn't mean to sound like I was knocking him. |

| yeah I hear ya guys , its like would Edler be playing "well" if Bourdon was his partner or Krajicek .. probably not as effective , perhaps he wouldnt look like top 4 material. I just dont hold it against young guys like Bourdon and Edler. |

As of today, he's a plus 15... And probably shouldn't be considered a prospect any longer.
Next season should be interesting - Miller and Weaver the only UFAs on D after this season. BXA, Salo, Ohlund, Mitchell, Krajicek, and Edler, with Bourdon waiting in the wings... _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

Thanks to Bosc for sharing this link: the Canucks' ratings for +/- and GAON/60, which is a measure of the team's goals against while on the ice, per 60 minutes on ice. Edler leads in +/- (+16), while being second only to Sami Salo for lowest GAON/60. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.

More love for Young Star, Alex Edler. To think, he almost became a Red Wing. _________________ ... Because the old one, is well, old.
