Got my new video card in the mail Tuesday, put the thing in last night. EVGA Geforce GTS 640MB KO card, the newly revised edition. The thing is a massive 2-slot, and luckily it fits into my case even with the extra fan on the HD rack. Had to bend a piece of metal on the back in between PCI slots to get it to fit in. I haven't had a chance to really try it out but I turned the graphics way the hell up on Cod4 and it looks awesome. I want to upgrade the rest of the compy, but for now I'm gonna hold off while I buy a 40" LCD.

Just picked up Assasin's Creed for the 360... AWESOME!

The beginning was a little slow (a lot of cut scene and dialogue with no opt out) but the graphics and the gameplay are phenomenal. I highly recommend it.

Also picked up Call of Duty 4 today...can't wait to play.

Anyone currently playing these games?

I'm waiting patiently for Santa to bring me COD4. If he renegs, I'm hitting Best Buy on the 26th and playing it 'til I puke.

As FPS go, R6V is a good one, even better in online MP.

Anyone playing Mass Effect? I sat down to play for a bit. I'm not sure if I was having a good time or not, but 6 hours went by without me noticing I hadn't taken a break.

For the record: I was disappointed with Jade Empire.

Haven't tried it yet; saw some propaganda about it. It's supposed to be a trilogy, right?

While we are all awaiting EL's list, here's an interesting one: Halo3 doesn't make the Top 10.

The list comes out tomorrow. I share a few games with Wired. I will say that I haven't had the chance to get the full Rock Band experience, but the few times I played I was less than impressed (largely because the instruments were poorly made).

tcl 0205196's R6V status: Finally leveled up to Staff Sergeant... 38,500 ep or so, another 44,000 to get to Master Sergent and the coveted Raging Bull. Mad At the rate I'm going, it'll take me at least another three months to get to that point... Evil or Very Mad

44,000 / 600 ep on T-hunt, LVU Campus, realistic = 73.33 wins... If I average 5 wins per night, one night per week... 14 weeks... Might just make it...

For those who are playing this, I learned of a terrific place to 'hide' and win with just two players in online coop (more is good too). Equip a shield, Mk.23 (Raging Bull or better yet, Desert Eagle), breaching charges and frags... Head out to the courtyard along the bottom steps (if playing with a team of four, it's best if two go up the stairs, and the other two go around to the courtyard through the double-doors). After getting past the 3-6 guards at that double door (use frags liberally), head up the stairs and do the door / breaching charge glitch. After that, there should be about 13-15 tangoes left (out of 25). Take what's left of your team through the offices to the second bridge/catwalk and go across. Instead of heading into the building on the right, go left and down the stairs to the back of the building - this is the maintenance room entrance. Get your shield up and back into the far corner opposite the door in which you came in; if there's more than one of you, the other team members can open the door (not the one marked 'EXIT') and there should be some bad guys on the other side. They will keep spawning in and will come through that door to get to you but as long as you have the shield, they should be relatively easy to defeat (they won't see you immediately since you're in a blind corner; you should be able to get the first three of four shots before they even know you're there). 600 ep easy. In one match last night, my team mate got wacked with 0 kills, and I ended up with all 25 kills... Laughing

I got to a certain point, started playing multiplayer, and haven't stopped. Did you try it online at all?

What did you hate?

I coughed up a pretty penny for shin megami tensei: persona 3 the other day. Its already out of stock everywhere. Got it on Ebay for $65 and its going for $80 plus.

I've always been a bit snake bitten for Japanese RPGs.......Atlus releases some interesting stuff.

COD4. I'm always leery about games that emphasize multiplayer over single-player (especially FPS') because as Counter Strike has proven, being a good multiplayer game really just means everything is well-balanced, and the rest of the presentation tends to be meaningless.

I will say COD4 is a great multiplayer game.

The single-player on the other hand, features a few design flaws that really upset me:

1. Regenerating enemies: if you sit back, they keep coming, but if you keep moving forward they seem to just disappear behind you (the TV station scene is a good example)
2. Some missions require you die so you can tell where all the snipers are, meaning I'll purposely walk into an open space, see where the shots are coming from, then try it again knowing precisely where everyone is
3. Enemies disappear if you hit a checkpoint. Some checkpoints also didn't come because I wasn't standing in the right place
4. The stealth Chernobyl mission is incredible, one of the best moments of the year. Unfortunately after sniping the guy, you have to get out of the building and you actually can't fight all the guys who are surrounding you. The only solution is to run through them, somehow avoiding being shot. Eventually you hit the apartment and they stop following you
5. The mission right after that also features way too many regenerating enemies (a sure-fire sign of lazy design) and you have to run across the left side of the field to break free, because on that side for some reason they miss hitting you in plain sight

Basically COD4 is supposed to be an amazing immersive experience, yet every time I tried to get into it there would be some sort of design flaw to remind me this is just some game. The Chernobyl stealth mission should have been the norm, not the exception.

I got Nights for the Wii. Can't wait to play that.

Played MP online last night until the wee hours of the morning... Guys on the Left Coast with whom I was teaming up with were saying, "Dude, it's late and I need to get some sleep..." Rolling Eyes Lightweights... Anyway, I ranked up to Sergeant 1st Class... Next stop Master Sergeant and the Raging Bull. But not for another 28,000 or so EP Mad .

Thanks for the write-up Smile As for the best moments of the year, did you play all the way through HL2ep2?
