I agree with Kylos, Richards isn't worth spending 7.8 million of cap space on, never mind tossing in Kesler...

Richards is definitely in play.

I hate this, you know once it hits the media that we aren't going to get him. If it's Bourdon and Schneider it's very tempting, if it involves Kesler I wouldn't do it straight up when you compare what they offer and what you're paying the next couple of years, Kesler is turning into a real bargain.

THat's basically what I've been saying about any deal involing Kesler. How does it improve our club by moving him? I mean we have bargaining chips but really the only prospect worth moving is Schnieder. We're looking at having far and away the best defensive corps in the league with the development of Edler and Bourdon. Shannon and MayRAy are something that is proving to be excited about. Kesler and Burrows are one of the best shut down in your face irrating Duo's to play against Luongo is regaining form. a solid 30 goal per year guy maybe Comrie if he can't get signed or someone of that nature to center Shannon and MayRay and add to their talent. Richards price tag is just too high I say that for the package we'd have top put togethr for him we'd be better off trying to pry Carter out of Philly good talented young center.

It's believed the Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets are the most active in the hunt, although according to source, Richards isn't expected to be given the list until later Sunday night.

Vancouver, Columbus and Dallas have all submitted offers for the Conn Smythe trophy winner.

Vancouver PP: Sedins, Naslund with Richards and Salo at the points...
Dallas PP: Modano, Ribeiro, Morrow, with Zubov and Richards at the points...
Columbus PP: Nash, Zherdev, Federov, with Richards and Klesla (?) at the points... Federov is a UFA, and may not be resigned this summer; would mean that Richards would be the #1 center...

If he wants to go to a city where he can live the life of a rock star hockey player, advantage VAN.
If he wants to continue to live in anonymity, advantage CBJ.
If he wants to go to a contender, advantage DAL.

Whatever happens, it'll be interesting...

They may be just as desperate what with Smyth and Sakic out and everyone in the division looking to bulk up for the stretch run; but would they want their hands tied cap-wise if they are thinking of bringing Forsberg back in the summer?

Feaster has the green light from Richards to shop him... The next step is to find the best price and then get the last green light from the new 'Ning owner.

As the resident (sometime) Lightning fanbase, I approve of this move.

And in other moves, Sundin is not in play. So Forsberg and Sundin are out, that should make Richards an even hotter commodity.

Richards wants to go to a team that has a solid postseason chance, which suggests Dallas has the edge. They could also dangle Mike Smith since Tampa wants a starting goalie (doubt they'd want Turco - too expensive, and they need the cap room).

EDIT: Apparently, Vancouver and Columbus are the frontrunners. If Richards wants to go to a playoff team, advantage Vancouver... Smile

Pierre LeBrun chimes in...

Quote:
Vancouver and Chicago surfaced over the weekend as two of the clubs possibly interested in Richards, who has a no-movement clause.

"No comment," Canucks GM Dave Nonis said Sunday night, refusing to confirm the rumour. Same held true when we reached Hawks GM Dale Tallon.

But we think both guys are indeed interested. The Canucks have been dying for help at centre and with Brendan Morrison and Markus Naslund both slated for unrestricted free agency July 1, there’s no concern moving forward with the Richards contract. This type of deal would also fall in line with Nonis’ public statements that he wouldn’t make a major deal for a rental player. And I think Richards would be up for playing in a super hockey market like Vancouver.

DN has stayed mum on the subject but it's no secret that they are serious contenders in this Richards sweepstakes.

What I find interesting here is that teams are calling about BMo... Shocked I'd say sell, sell, sell!!!

I would only be in favor of trading Morrison if Richards was definitely coming in. I like Morrison's versatility, but it makes sense to salvage some assets for him (provided they were decent enough -- I'd rather have Morrison in a reduced role for a playoff run than a third-round draft pick) if a new centerman is bumping him down a peg.

Agreed. I wonder if he may also be part of a package to Tampa for Richards, especially if they want to create cap space...

word is Nonis has offers on the table for both Richards and JOkinen ( not to say he wants/expects both...either or) but the OJ bidding war could get ridiculous which makes RIchards more affordable in trade.

I hadn't heard that he was serious about landing OJ... I didn't think Florida would be keen on potentially getting a ass-reamed again in another trade with Vancouver... So who would you rather have, OJ or Richards? And how much would you be willing to trade for either?

funny you ask that , that was the hot topic this morning on 1040 and the Poll question!!

for me in terms of raw talent , I think they're equal or close enough. MOney edge to OJ but trade price edge to Richards... man , its tough. I think OJ has no NTC? I think every team will be in the OJ bidding war.. I think Van has a real shot at BR caz of his damn salary.

If I had to choose based on the player , no politics/money issues.. I prefer OJ for this team. I think he's a better fit plus he and Luongo being good buddies doesnt hurt.

I say hands down Jokinen but he's gonna be hard to land and yeah I'd think they'd be a little gun shy in dealing with us again.
