First things first. Great job on moving so fast and getting up a working site up. I wish I could've been a part of it but it looks like my limited services weren't needed. Wink

Excellent touch with the redirect. Thanks Cali. Any news on where we go from here on that one?

The site layout looks great. Would we be up against trademark issues if we added the logos to the forums on the overview page?

Moved this to news.

It would be a copyright problem more than a trade-mark one, but no more so than every sports forum out there that uses logos. (Pretty much everyone's avatar is in violation of copyright law too, for what it's worth).

I don't think we have this capability in the free hosting we have, though.

Really? I thought I was going to be raked over the coals for it. Laughing That's why I left in two more conservative options.

I really wanted "Icicle" (the one we all liked yesterday), but not having an OTP banner up was just wrong.

So my biggest concern is the redirect.....is it for today only? Has anyone approached Cali about buying it or loaning it?

Looks like we should have the redirect until at least March, then! Very Happy

Very good news.

What do you think about a sort of "content" forum, to replace the main page that OTP used to have? We could bring back the Wheat Board, Av's Corner, the Ivory Tower and Bosc's WIP (or anything else), but make each article a thread instead?

Alternatively, we could have a fourth set of forums (there is currently general, NHL and other hockey) for content, and then each of the Wheat Board, Ivory Tower, etc. would be its own forum.

Ian can you do a big news flash on the main page telling redirected members who have no idea what is going on, what is going on? Like where it says "Welcome to OTP II!!! A place for hockey discussion and more", make that font a lot bigger and say that members of the old forum have to re-subscribe?

Do you have access to the source code?

I can change what that says, but it will be the size and font that the template you use currently displays. (And I think it's limited in space). Apart from that, there's nowhere else to do it.

I put an announcement in this forum to that effect, but admittedly you'd have to click on News to get to it.

No, we can't configure very much with this hosting. Sad No customized emoticons either.

Ewww.

I will talk to someone I know on the weekend about hosting if I can get the #'s and traffic from Cali for the Old OTP. Does anyone have em, if not, can you get them from Joe, Tom?

I'd need database size, bandwidth usage, and the server utilities(things like php, mysql) that were used.

Frig, I wonder how much space Joe saved in the database by limiting the quote depth to one.

Hounsy asked the same question but the answer was posted in the old OTP... Hounsy might still have those #s...

No... FTP . . . access?
I think a part of my soul just died.

Edit: Why the balls does it want to turn "FTP..." into a link. That is some weak link detection.

There may very well be; I know little about this, to be honest. (Including what our password is, if we do have FTP access).

To those involved in getting this generation of OTP up and running so quickly as not to cause withdrawal symptoms, thank you.

I noticed that the Date and Time of last post does not appear on the Index page. Is it possible to include it there ?

I certainly check the most recent posts by date/time in order to see what's most current or what seems to be the hot topic.

I was also looking at GoDaddy's hosting this morning and it truly isn't that expensive....yeah we would have t....pay a membership fee....or pimp for donations..........but.....we'd kind of be owners!

Here is what Cali said.

the DB is currently ~90Megs ... and traffic wise, I can't think it's that much at all - it's mosty text with ~5-10k page views a day.

Shocked I had no Idea this was happening. Thank God for the Re-direct. Anyway, this looks great. It looks like Jyrki21 has spent a lot of time on this. Great Job. I didn't realize Cali had turned over so much of the responsibility's. He must be busy these days. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing the updates.

Yeah thanks to the boys now running the site, lots of work most of can't do or don't know how to, lol...

I also really dig the modern look, I can finally tell where the new posts are without having to squint.
