Torii Hunter signs with the Angels.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand as I predicted, the Rox get completely shut out of any postseason awards. Rollins wins NL MVP. Fine by me.

Sad, sad day. Crying or Very sad

It's going to get sadder if Santana can't be re-upped soon.

Saw that on the ticker during the NU/CU game. Tragic...I liked Kennedy when he was with the Rockies.

Unbelievable ... 28 yr old, healthy guy. 1st thing that comes to mind is perhaps some supplements? I don't know - that's freakin' aweful though. Another athlete passing away way too young.

Word is Minny has offered him 80 mil over 4 years and he turned it down
Some team is gonna have to overpay for Santana, both in the trade and in the contract, because that's what it will take to get him to forgo his best shot at free agency.

The Yankees are supposedly currently in talks with Minny
names being tossed around are Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes, and Melky Cabrera.........

The Red Sox probed them a little, and naturally the player the Twins wanted was Jacoby Ellsbury, along with a young pitcher (Bucholz?)
The Sox felt that was "too rich"
The Twins are high on Coco Crisp, but I doubt he & a package of prospects would hold up to what some other teams are offering the Twins.

Naturally, any trade would be contingent upon the acquiring team signing Santana. Word is it would take a 6 or 7 year deal to get him to drop his no-trade clause (because he doesn't want to be a 34 year old, on the downslide free agent)

Major trade (reportedly) being discussed between the Twinkies and Rays, and surprisingly Santana is not one of those involved.

Sure hope he swings a bat as well as he throws one.

Nats pull off a bit of a coup, trading C Brian Schneider and LF Ryan Church to the Mets for 5-tooler Lastings Milledge. OK, so Milledge has had attitude problems and hasn't accomplished much, but he's only 23 and the Nats have a spot for him to start. A good risk.

Ditto the Garza-Young deal. Both teams trading from strength to bolster their weaknesses. What a novel concept.

The Giants are rumoured to be in the hunt for Andruw Jones and Andy Marte. I like both. I think Jones is undervalued after a terrible year; the guy is under 30, can still mash and can still play CF (even if he is a bit chunky). Marte falls slightyl in the Milledge category, he's a former blue-chipper that could flourish under the right circumstances. Marte doesn't have the same ability as Lastings, but 280/20/85 isn't out of the question.

Hold up, didn't you say on the old board when I asked a question about Hunter vs. Jones, that you'd stay the hell away from both, save the cash and develop a kid? Unless the Giants clearly don't have a kid anywhere in their system? Smile

The Mets are confusing the hell out of me. First they make an overblown offer to Torrealba (who reportedly will re-sign with us, yay!) then they trade Mota to the Brewers for Johnny Estrada. Now they trade for Schneider and have all but said he is the starting catcher. Reportedly the Mets will either try to trade Estrada and, failing that, simply won't give him a contract offer. What the fuck gives? I know Estrada's an up-and-down player, but I don't get why they went and got him in the first place. If the Rox indeed don't sign Torrealba I'd LOVE for them to make a trade or just wait until he's released and make a decent offer.

Jones playing CF for the Giants? Nawwwwww he's too young! I could see him playing in SF in about oh, say, 10 years from now.

True, but I'm meeting vet loving Sabean halfway.

Personally I wouldn't mind an OF of Davis-Winn-Schierholtz, with Lewis and Roberts on the bench, but I know the Giants have money to spend and can't help themselves to some bloated contracts. Jones is one that I wouldn't detest, since I think he can hit 30 homers for the next four years, even in San Fran.

Besides, my first choice has always been to give Fukudome 3/30.

As for Estrada, the Mets never intended to keep him, they just wanted to trade Mota's contract to some sucker. Torrealba failed a physical, which is why the Met deal went South, so Schneider was the next option.

More Giants news from MLB Trade Rumours Blog

MLB Trade Rumours wrote:
* Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum aren't going anywhere, and Sabean says there's "too much chatter around the industry" about the pair. He could've traded one of them for Delmon Young, perhaps. Sabean will continue to be open-minded but it would probably take a ridiculous offer.
* Sabean chimes in on Miguel Cabrera. He thinks the Marlins are asking for way too much, basically.
* Big name free agents like Andruw Jones or Aaron Rowand are not likely. Boras still expects $100MM+ for Andruw, according to Buster Olney's sources. Randy Winn could move back to center, or the Giants will sign a more affordable free agent center fielder. Jerry Crasnick runs 'em down here - maybe it'll be Kosuke Fukudome, Corey Patterson, or Kenny Lofton, someone like that.
* Sabean mentions that Pedro Feliz wants a three-year contract that'll never happen. Unless Feliz gets more reasonable Sabean will explore the trade market. Andy Marte is said to be on their radar.
* Henry Schulman tosses out some possible trade targets for third base and outfield: Melky Cabrera, Carlos Quentin, and Garrett Atkins.
* Not much interest in guys like Dave Roberts, Ray Durham, or Rich Aurilia. Maybe Sabean shouldn't have signed them in the first place! Here's a weird one - Baggarly says the Giants almost acquired Carlos Gomez for Bengie Molina last year. At least that's what I think he says. Say whaaaat?

ChiSox and DBacks make the first trade of the winter meetings.

DBacks send 25-year old OF Carlos Quentin to the South Side for slugging A-baller and X-Files creator Chris Carter.

I like the trade for both sides. White Sox needed a power hitting OF who was major league ready, and Quentin had no space to play in Zona. Carter is someone they can stash away and hope develops Ryan Howard power in the next three years.

Cubs and Friars seem to be Fukudome's two greatest suitors. We shall see.

I came across this while searching for Kosuke Fukudome videos on YouTube. Is she coming over to America too? Shocked

Joe Urbon, Fukudome's agent, is meeting with the Giants! C'mon Sabes, he's the one guy I wouldn't mind overpaying for.

The White Sox, Cubbies, Friars and Rangers are also in the mix. 3/30 seems to be the standard number.

TBay also dumped problem child Elijah Dukes on the Nationals for a low-prospect. A potential Dukes-Milledge-Pena OF (remember Kearns is still around for this year at least) could be truly great, like the second coming of the 86 Mets.

Not much Gagne talk, but I could see him going back to Texas to close.
