Claiming it was an "external malicious attack." Already IT experts are saying that's bullshit, if they were under attack they could've stopped it upstream.

Yet another press conference being held this afternoon. Guess we'll see.

Franklin Morales in the pen, Aaron Cook who has been out with injury likely going to be in the starting rotation.

http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_7258204

I think this is a mistake since the Sox have NO lefties in their lineup as opposed to two in the Rox rotation should they keep Morales. Sure, he's been shaky, but I trust him more than Cook, who wasn't even all that great this year before his major injury.

I'm hoping I get proven wrong again, but I still think Morales should stay in the rotation and it should be Cook throwing out of the pen...

Huh? what am I missing here?

Ortiz, Drew, Varitek (sw), Ellsbury ( Cool FINALLY), Crisp (sw)
Hinske and Cora off the bench ... who did I miss?

or are you talking about their starting ROTATION?
in that case..... never mind Laughing

I have the feeling this series is gonna go 7 games as well
ESPN's Baseball tonight all picked the Sox, which means the Rockies should sweep the series ... but I think this will be a great series

Becket already one of the all-time playoff greats?

One incredible stat: 3 post-season shutouts in 9 starts. He has 2 in his 166 career regular season starts.

Hope the Rox bats and the Rox for that matter are not cold from such a loooong layoff.

Well actually the Rox bats were for the most part cold, if not for their defense and pitching they'd have been a first-round exit for sure...their two best offensive players have been Yorvit Torrealba and Kazuo Matsui for cryin' out loud... Laughing

I'm more worried about the pitching...the Sox bats are scary to say the least. This isn't the Diamondbacks we're facing down now, this team sports the two best postseason hitters in baseball, and it ain't like the other guys in that lineup suck. Oh, and having the best postseason pitcher in baseball doesn't help Colorado's cause either.

The only problem the Sox face is when they gotta come here to Colorado--who do ya sit? Youk or Ortiz? I bet they'll go w/Big Papi and just use Youk as a pinch hitter/defensive substitute.

This game's gonna be HUGE...if the Rox can get some good swings against Beckett that'll be a big statement. I know they dusted him earlier in the season but that was regular season, Beckett's a different beast in the postseason.

I just read recently the Indians invited Danielle Peck (Beckett's ex) to sing the national anthem in an obvious attempt to rattle him...he proceeded to make the Tribe look like amateurs. Total bush league...in this case I'm glad he smoked 'em.

BTW I've never heard of Danielle Peck until just then...she's friggin' hot. Shocked

That was being discussed on the radio today (the DH)
I'm thinking it depends on the pitching matchup, but I would expect
Papi to sit at least one game in Colorado to rest his knee

They might even sit Lowell for one game and move Youk to 3rd

Lowell is prolly the only Sox player with much experience vs. Rox pitching
if he even has any against their current pitchers

I'm positive he's faced Francis and more than likely Fogg as well, not sure if he's squared off against Aaron Cook. He definitely hasn't seen Ubaldo Jimenez or Franklin Morales though.

I feel bad for Wakefield, sounds like his injury is more than likely a career-ender. Remember he was the only Sox pitcher to garner a win in the three-game interleague series between the two teams this season. There was a rumor Francona would use him behind Beckett just to throw the Rockies way off their game and then come back with another power guy in Dice-K. Don't know whether that helps Colorado or not, but any little thing helps.

Yeah I figured Wake in game 4 for sure ... now likely Lester
Wake is actually considering retirement, pending more med. info ....
Wakefield actually pitched very well for 4 innings in game 4 vs. the Tribe,
but the final stat line after the 5th wasn't too pretty.
He got hit a little, but also had some bad luck on well placed grounders, and screwed himself out of an inning ending double play by redirecting one of them.

Ironically enough, Matsuzaka almost did the same thing( or was it Okajima?)
in game 7, but pulled his glove back at the last second, and Lowell started a 5-4-3 DP to end the Tribe's last threat when it was still 3-2.

EDIT: it was Okajima Wink

What a terrible performance by Jeff Francis.

He's missing his spots early and putting way too many over the plate. He's not changing speeds at all and no one on the Sox seems to be fooled.

The Rox hitters haven't done him any favours, and the Holliday/Taveras fuck up didn't help, but Francis has really looked out of it.

Yup, when Francis has a bad day at the office, he REALLY has a bad day.

He's never been a flamethrower but his velocity was down from what it usually is, and he was hanging stuff high all night, Youk and the rest of the Sox just teed off on him. The rest of the Rox pitchers looked like they hadn't thrown a ball the entire layoff, just horrid all around, our defense was bad too.

I just knew Beckett would be on his game, Rox hitters had no chance, that 1-2-3 strikeout first inning made me think "yup, it's gonna be a long night," unfortunately I hadn't anticipated Francis stinking up the joint like he did, or Morales...or Speier....Yeesh. Rolling Eyes

Wow...I'm hoping the Rockies can rally around Ubaldo and aren't intimidated by Schilling, otherwise I think this series will be over in a hurry...

Interesting fact that I heard on the radio: The Rockies have only play 8 games in the last 23 days or something crazy like that.

The good thing about it for Colorado is Schilling doesn't intimidate anyone anymore. It doesn't matter if they lost game 1 by 10 runs or only 1.
They're still only down 1 game

Boston beat up Cleveland pretty good in game 1, and ended up being down 3 games to 1, so it's far from over

Dice-K v. Fogg tonight.

Speaking of Japanese imports, a report out of San Fran today says the Giants are looking to make a big offer for Japanese OF Kosuke Fukudome.

Here's a video of the slugger in action

SF has lots of money to spend and too many holes to fill. Fukudome provides some marketing appeal and OBP.

Oh well...

In other news, A-Rod, under the supervision of Scott Boars, has officially opted out of his contract. Looks like he'll be gunning for that 10 year/300M contract elsewhere.

Assuming the Yanks are serious about not negotiating with him, who could actually pay the piper?

Cubs (to play SS)
Mets (move Wright to 1B and move Delgado)
Sox (Lowell is a FA)
Angels (Figgins moves back to OF)
Giants (they shaved 50M from the payroll)
Tigers (move Guillen to 3B, or dump Inge)
Dodgers (they have Nomar, but they can afford it and need a bat)
Mariners (they could shed Beltre, Sexon. Guillen is a FA)
White Sox (Uribe gone)

Most of these teams won't bother, but all it takes is two, or even just one really eager one, and Boras might snare a 300M deal.
