Is our resident Raoul Duke ever going to undertake a journey to Toronto? |
Well he has to drive through here to get to Buffalo. |
Is going from Montreal to the 401 West down to Hamilton, then QEW to Buffalo, shorter than crossing over the border near 1000 islands? _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

It's actually a little closer distance wise to take the 81 south and the 90 west. Also you miss the crazy Toronto traffic _________________

I certainly didn't mean to imply that you were, so I apologize if that's how it sounded. I realize Barry is a jerk, but he's been demonized more than any of the other players from the 'roid era of baseball and I find it excessive.
And now, I'm off to Buffalo to kill you. No, I'm off to Buffalo for other reasons, but if you see someone wearing sunglasses at night and yelling constantly, be a dear and say hello. |
I'm sorry that you have to come to Buffalo.
I too would avoid coming through Toronto. Take 81. |

Astros expected to pluck Luis Castillo from the Mets. I hope the Rox succeed in signing Kaz for a modest amount, but given the dearth of quality 2nd basemen on the FA market it's almost a guarantee someone will come forth with a ridiculous offer. I'll laugh my ass off if it's the Mets. I'll laugh even harder if Kaz is dumb enough to sign that offer. |

Nonsense, Buffalo is a lovely city. Sort of.
We planned on hitting the border earlier, but there was congestion at the border stop so we drove through TO. Spent most of the evening at various Niagara Falls establishments, crossed the border at around 3 AM.
As for a visit to TO, I'll be there for business on Nov. 16. Should be fun: fly-in/fly-out and drinks should be comped. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Luckily, I am one.

I was mostly kidding.
The borders have all been backed up since with the canadian dollar situation. Lots of canadian shoppers. |

I normally hate Dayn Perry but he writes up a nice team-by-team hotstove article here:

Long story short, it is most definitely a players' market. |

I don't know about you Av, but considering the weak field of free agent 3rd basemen after ARod and Lowell (it's so terrible Pedro Feliz is likely no. 3), the Rox should really look at trading Garret Atkins.
They could nab two young pitchers, and put Ian Stewart at 3b where he belongs (and none of this 2b crap).
What about Atkins to NYY for Ian Kennedy and Humberto Sanchez? _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Luckily, I am one.

Very good point, I guess if there was a time to trade Atkins I doubt his value will get any higher. I'm a bit worried that Stewart is not yet ready but I guess if there were an expendable player he's definitely the one.
I don't know about either of those prospects...what's the scouting report on 'em? |

Interestingly enough, SI makes that same point in last weeks mag.
Among 5 trades they say should happen, one was Garrett Atkins to the Twins for RHPs Anthony Swarzak and Eduardo Morlan
Other names mentioned were Coco Crisp to White Sox for 1b Chris Carter;
Miguel Tejada to Blue Jays for Adam Lind, Brandon League, and David Purcey;
and Jhonny Peralta to Cubs for OF Matt Murton and RHP Sean Gallagher. _________________ I'm a Bruins fan - don't try to confuse me with the facts |

Schilling is signed on for another season!
Awesome move in my opinion - I was fearful we had seen him pitch has last game w/ the Sox.
Contract even includes a weight clause!

John MacDonald gets no love. I know I mostly only see the Jays play, but nobody else I've watched this year comes close to him. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

MacDonald got a lot of notice this year, but I think his late season injury cost him a legit shot. I don't think he played enough games.
Cabrera's a very, very, good defensive shortstop, though. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

Defintely the gold gloves are a joke, rewarding offensive ability more than defensive, but John MacDonald is pretty overrated. Sure he made some circus catches and throws, but the truth is many of those were routine grounders he had to dive for because he has limited range.
Tulowitzki is the best defensive player I've seen since Ozzie Smith. It's a joke he's not there. Pedro Feliz, as bad as he is with the stick, was the best defensive third baseman in the NL.
David Wright can't make an accurate throw to save his life.
Adam Everett was without a doubt the best defensive player in baseball for about 4 years running (he was hurt this season) and he never won a gold glove because he didn't smack 20 homers. A meaningless award. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Luckily, I am one.

Good. I hope the Rox get completely shut out from any awards...the more disrespected they are the hungrier they should be next season. I don't want Tulowitzki to get rookie of the year since that award did wonders for guys like Ben Grieve, Todd Hollandsworth, Kerry Wood, and Eric Hinske. Same goes for the MVP for Holliday.
Still, baseball sportswriters prove they're the worst hacks in the profession...the best fielding team IN THE HISTORY of the major leagues and no one, not a single fucking one gets a gold glove? Idiots. |

I think it's the managers that vote on the Gold Gloves _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Well I've commented on the quality of managers in MLB overall--I think even our own is pretty friggin' bad, so this just reinforces that. |

That is pretty bad, you'd think they'd have at least one
although if you had the 2nd best fielder at each position, technically, you'd have the best defense
I agree with Sask about the SS glove: MacDonald always looked incredible to me in the few games I've seen. I'm not a baseball encyclopedia, and the fact I remember his name means he impressed me at some point
But Orlando Cabrera always impressed me defensively, with his fielding and throws (every throw on the chest) Why the Sox let him leave I'll never know...
