wow. All I have to say is wow. And include part of a review about the Leonard Cohen concert:

It's a humbling thing, being in the presence of true greatness, especially when you get the gnawing sense that this is the last time you'll share an audience with it.

Leonard Cohen hasn't toured in 15 years. At 73, he's as dapper and as handy with a bon mot as he ever was, but there was a slight frailty evident in the legendary poet's suited-and-fedora'd frame as he serenaded a rapt crowd at the Sony Centre for two-and-a-half entrancing hours last night that suggested he can't have too many more world tours in him.

It was his words, Cohen's wonderful, romantic, breathtakingly perfect words, though, that were the true stars of the evening.

Very Happy

OK - so enough of the review - I can't say more really - except GUESS WHAT?

I got to meet Leonard Cohen Friday afternoon! I have one of only 300 copies of his first book of poetry, and it was my ticket to meeting him just after he arrived at the Hummingbird Centre on Friday! His guitar player took me in to meet him, and he re-signed my book, to me, and I got to hold his hand for a moment and kiss him on the cheek and hug him!

YAY!

Very Happy

Wow, that's amazing Maureen. You have one of only 300 copies? How'd you get that book?

My dad gave it to me as a present when I started University.

My dad found the book when he worked for a moving company in Montreal and they were clearing a storage facility of unpaid storage units, and he loved Leonard Cohen, and knew the book would have some value!

And now it has even more value - it was signed by Leonard Cohen in May 1956, and now June 2008.

Oh my god - You're hilarious!

actually, I think it was quite the opposite - my knees were jello, and I was struck almost speechless - actually you know what, when he took my hand, I felt this sense of peace and calm come over me.... It was better than sex.

The man. The myth. The legend.

I can't quite figure out what makes Leonard such a compelling figure, but if I could have a few beers with any living person on this planet, it would be him. And then we'd go to Wilensky's.

One of these days I might get "Marita, please find me, I'm almost 30" tattooed somewhere. Every year that line gets more ominous.

Billy Bragg tonight and kinda got mixed ecpectations. So many of the politics/idealisms just don't ring as true with me now as they did twenty years ago and wonder what factor that would play in his shows these days.

We will see. Hey any of the Toronto contingent know if the seating area of the sirius stage at the Harbourfront centre is covered or open.

So I guess i should say....Butch came out and we went to Maiden in Alburquerque a few weeks back.......We took my wife her sister and my son. I had a good time. But I won't be inviting her sister and my wife back on a road trip anytime soon. Kai acted better.

We drank 9 dollar beers, got chastised because we were white, and hitchhiked with Kai.

And then drove back. New Mexico sucks.

Probably the last time I see Maiden. I like them and all but paying a bazillion dollars to hear the same old tunes is old now.

Now...next up Pepper and Slightly Stoopid at Red Rocks!

On Monday night I saw one of the best concerts EVER!

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss at the Molson Amphitheatre. The two of them were just so unbelievably great - she is gorgeous and has the most beautiful voice - and he is a rock GOD.

I went with a friend who bought the tickets, but I wasn't really sure what to expect - not really knowing anything about Alison Krauss. It was an amazing surprise to me when she sang a couple of songs from the "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack - she sang that "down to the river" song and it gave me goosebumps!

And then GUESS WHAT? The two of them sang Zeppelin's "Black Dog" the "Battle of Evermore" - Evermore gave me the most goosebumps of the whole night - and there were tons of those moments - and Robert Plant's song "I'm in the Mood"

All in all, I would say that this concert makes my top ten list of greatest and most unexpected live concerts ever!

I got a chance to catch British comic Russell Brand tonight. He's the British dude in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. What a wild, clusterfuck of a show. The guy kept getting sidetracked and moving into crazy tangents, but the set was almost always funny, especially the sex stuff.

It was in a small theatre, only a couple hundred people. Judd Apatow and Greg Behrendt were there, and I saw Ryan Stiles and Greg Proops smoking in front of the building.

Got back late last night from the Whistler Music Festival. Had to work Saturday so I missed The Roots, but got to catch Medeski, Martin and Wood, Broken Social Scene and Elvis Costello. Got extremely stoned. I was wearing a Clash Tshirt that I bought 20 years ago. It's pretty worn and sheer. People kept coming up to me saying, "wow man, I saw you walking around earlier and had to find you to say that that shirt fucking rules!" I heard a couple of really cool Clash stories.
