I think they just started touring again. They have a new album too. They sound great. The lead singer came out with the opening band and did a cover of Tom Petty's Learnin' to Fly. They also covered Elton John's Rocket Man as an encore.
They played at the free out door show Buffalo has downtown on Thursdays in the summer. Thursdays at the Square. _________________ Lady, people aren't chocolates. But you know what they are, mostly? Bastards. Bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling. |

John Mayer a few weeks ago...bought the tickets for my girlfriend.
Shouldn't have skipped the Killswitch Engage show
I'm there the next time King Crimson or Yes come to Toronto, though :Butch: _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Spiritualized only gets a C?
What happened?
I've seen Mr. Spaceman 5 times in the past 9 years, and without fail, he blew me away every time. I was considering getting tickets to the Virgin Festival in Toronto just to see Spiritualized.
How long did they play? Was it mostly material from the new CD?
I need to know if it would be worth the $75 ticket and your input would be most appreciated!
Thanks man! |

It's the festival format that didn't seem to fit well. Spaceman's winding and spatial musical style doesn't really work in a short set (45mins), outdoors, in daylight. The lousy acoustics didn't help him much when he turned the amps up. It's probably very jarring in a theatre, but outside the depth of the compositions got muddled in the open air.
You need to be of a certain mood to really appreciate the kind of music he does. If you're a fan you'll probably enjoy yourself since he seemed more into it than usual, and he was playing a bit louder.
The band was tight, and they played a lot of old material (admittedly I really dug his performance of "Come Together").
I think you'll dig the set. You're probably a bigger fan of his than I am. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Luckily, I am one.

Assuming I get the day off and it doesn't rain I'm going to Mayhem Fest. Three Stages. I'm not a HUGE fan of any of these bands, but it seemed like a good way to spend a day.
Slipknot
Disturbed
Dragonforce
Mastadon
Machine Head
Airbourne
Five Finger Death Punch
Walls of Jericho
Under Oath
Black Tide
Suicide Silence
36 Crazyfists

Madness, madness, they call it madness!
One Step Beyond!
Our House, in the middle of the street
It's just gone noon, half past monsoon, on the banks of the river Nile
For those of you who think I've lost it, no. We went and saw Madness perform last night at Sandown Racetrack Five Miles Long, Do da, Do da, in Esher, southwest of London (in GB, not Ont!). They had the horseraces, then the band played for 1.5 hours after. The track was sold out and everyone stayed for the performance after. The band started off with One Step Beyond then ripped off lots of their past hits and sounded top notch up until the finale of Night Boat To Cairo. People of all ages were up dancing and singing to their tunes. Most of all, my 14 year old daughter loved every minute of it. They kept the bars open until the concert finished around 10:45 PM. There were lots of drunken Limeys everywhere but no fights that I saw. Only complaint was that Mike Barson, the keyboardist, didn't start the show because his plane was delayed while returning from holidays in southern France. He appeared midway through the show with a rousing response from the audience led by lead singer Graham "Suggs" McPherson of "Have a nice holiday?" With and without him, the band sounded great and has aged well. Glad I finally saw them live. |

Madness are the fucking shit. Love them.
I was so pumped because I thought you were in Canada...thanks for getting my hopes up about seeing Madness one day. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Luckily, I am one.

E.L.
Your review and feedback of Spiritualized is most appreciated! You're the best Eric!
So Thursday was my mom and dad's 43 Anniversary, and they celebrated by going to the Beer Festival in Toronto with my brother and sister-in-law.
Apparently word got out around the festival and beer tent, and The English Beat - who were the Beer Tent band for the night, wished my mom and dad Happy Happy!!
Review of the English Beat from my very drunken mom, dad brother and sister-in-law:
OH MY GOD THEY WERE AMAZING!
I picked up the stumbling foursome after the festivities!
