Seems the last few years every time the local news calls for some snow they sell it as the potential for a major storm when ninety percent of the time it turns out to just be another normal snow fall day. Wonder how much the local new ratings increase when people are wondering if a big storm is about to hit?

Just something that was bugging me last night and wonder if other locals have this same situation.

That's like when they had the Storm Center on for a radio station when there was going to be a couple of centimetres Rolling Eyes And of course? 600 fucking accidents in the GTA Rolling Eyes

Oh yeah, I also loved the extreme cold warning for -7.

They play it up here too. It's always gloom and doom. And after what happened last October they big on "always be prepared"

One station even had their own branded car emergency kits.

I just got back from Vermont, which borders on Quebec. In the hotel room, I watched the local news for the weather. They stated "some snow" tonight.

The next morning (6:00am), I walked out to 6" of snow on my rental car. So much for "some snow". But then, Vermont is WAY used to snow.

So is Buffalo but, none the less for the last, 2 days all they've talked about is the foot of snow we're supoosed to get tonight. Big deal.

when I lived in California, there was a dusting of snow one day...
schools and businesses were shut down, accidents everywhere Laughing

I also hate the overkill on storms
We got something like 6-8" Thursday night, and the local stations insisted on having a split screen during the network shows...
Do I really have to watch TV with half the screen showing plows?
It's snowing- I get it - now get the fuck off my TV until the news is on! Evil or Very Mad

Hey Lil, where in Vermont did you go?
I've got a cabin on the Canadian border, sounds like you may have been nearby (though I wasn't there)
You need a jeep or such to reach it in summer - in winter you need a snowmobile Laughing

Why the fuck would someone with an Acura RSX with lowprofile sport tires try and drive down an unplowed street with 8" of snow on it....idiot.

Pushed him back to the tire ruts and told him he shouldn't be out here with tires like that and went back to shoveling my driveway. now 45 minutes later and the moron is only about 40 metres down the street. At this rate he'll make it to the main road in about another hour and a half. Laughing

Laughing Laughing Laughing

reminds me of some Canadian dudes that were terrorizing the countryside where our cabin is in Vermont. They nearly ran us off the road, and we could hear them driving through the woods all night.

By the time everyone (except me) was going to bed we could hear tires spinning relentlessly....

Shortly after the sun was almost up, I was still nursing the fire, and another beer...up to our camp walks a mud covered dude, looking for help.
I told him we'd be glad to help...in the morning when everyone was awake

what we found when we got to their vehicle was hilarious:
they had driven out onto the stream bed, got stuck, then spun their tires all night until their truck was buried right up to chassis
They brought someone from the village ( North Troy ) with a truck to help
He took one look at their situation, and said "FUCK YOU! Just fuck you dude" they needed a bigger truck Laughing

Hippy - I was in Burlington Vermont. They told me that Montreal was about 45 minutes drive in good weather.

If it was summer, I would have driven there on my one day off. We converted all of Vermont in December, so unfortunately, I will not be that close again - at least for work.

God, I'd love to see Quebec. I'm just going to have to get my ass in gear and go....someday.

My next trip is to Pennsylvania on 1/10-1/17. The next trip is to New Jersy on 1/24.

Speaking of Montreal and the weather, I was skiing up in Saint-Sauveur today. Absolutely stunning weather, it was like a dream. The snow was soft and flaky, and I was gunning it.

Apparently Denver got a huge dump of Christmas Snow. Haven't seen a post from any of the Colorado OTPers for a while. Perhaps they are still digging out. Very Happy

I drove to Kansas City, Mo on the 26th so I got to miss all the snow.

Is it warm right now where you are too? I had a great day skiing on Sunday, but it looks like this weekend will be too warm and wet for fun.

Humbug.

10C and raining tomorrow.

Yesterday was nice for about 2-3 hours, and then the wind came in and blew all the snow that has piled up around the city onto the roads. Today it's cooling off again to the -20 to -30 range.

I have cursed winter many times in this cold snap. I'm definitely planning a winter vacation next year.
