Something not mentioned here is the fact that Detroit has only taken three European players out of their 12 picks in the past two drafts. Given they have a patient philosophy with drafting and developing, this doesn't come as a surprise when you think about the new rule where you have to get Europeans under contract within 2 years or lose their rights(well, that or they just didn't see as much in them as they used to). It used to be that Detroit would draft players in Europe, leave them there to develop for a longer than 2 years. Detroit drafted two players from tier-II Junior A in Ontario last draft, who will go the college route. That means that they have 4 years to sign an entry-level deal, as opposed to 2 years with European players. I'm wondering if they will also take more picks out of the USHL or the USNDP. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!
