wow....ownership must be really drinking the kool aid of this team. yeah I picked them to win the cup and if they were as dominant as I expected them to be I would say this is a security no brainer. Maybe they asked Kipper why he has been blowing chunks and he said I am tired....

Replace a faltering Kipper with a Quadgenarian CuJo. Only in KeenanLand does this make any sort of sense.
Ironically, he pulled the same bullshit on a younger CuJo in St. Loo with an aging Grant Fuhr...  |

Why wouldn't this be a great signing for the Flames?
He's obviously going to be dirt cheap or he'd have been signed already since he's probably not in it for the money at this point.
Kipper is playing nearly every game because we have no other goalie capable of winning games. That's a fact.
Cujo could give Kipper a few games rest down the stretch and for the team it means not being completely dead in the water should Kipper go down ever for a short period of time.
Get it done Sutter. And get Phaneuf signed too while you're at it.  |

| The back room talk here is that Don Meehan represented Darryl Sutter and currently represents Phaneuf, Huselius and Cujo. There is some open-ness there. A possible discussion point may involve Meehan suggesting that if Sutter were to sign Cujo beyond the end of the season, talks could accelerate with Phaneuf and Huselius. Agents are not supposed to do that of course... |

There's even talk now of Toronto landing Cujo!?
God, I hope somebody picks Raycroft up!
Man, through the mid 90's / early 00's, Cujo was the best goalie in the league in my opinion. I've never seen performances as outstanding as the ones he put on with the Oilers & Leafs.

In a basic sense this addresses the need for a moderately capable backup. I don't think Curtis has been that bad but if the Flames are positioning for a cup run or at least a deep playoff push this isn't a bad thing.
I'd rather see a top line Center myself....possibly Sundin. But then again the Flames have nothing to offer for him (at least nothing I would be willing to part with). The Leafs may be dumb but if they are serious about peddling Sundin its going to take quite the rebuilding package.

We can get Cujo without giving up anything besides a bit of money and a small amount of cap room. Based on what rentals fetched last year, I'd rather the Flames stayed out of that game.
Signing Cujo is a smart, low cost move. Trading for Sundin has the potential to be HUGE right now, but it's also very high risk and has a high cost in terms of players and picks given up. |

This might not be a bad rental option considering all the money will be tied up anyway. I think Butch may be right as it would take Lombardi plus some.
I've no doubt he (Sundin) would resign with Toronto in the off-season anyway.

Unless injured come playoffs it's Kipper in net so his cup ring would be nothing like Bourgue, Cujo will be a spectator.

Cujo brings more to the table than the occasional day off for Kipper. Even if he never plays a game, Cujo fills an important role that we are missing from last year in that we'll now have a veteran goalie at practices. This is someone who knows his role, keeps everyone upbeat, sustains the challenge for shooters in the secondary drills and can direct defenses at the other end of the ice from Kipper. None of Keetley, McElhinney or Krahn can do that at an NHL level. Cujo will also contrubute a steadying influence in the room and can take questions from the media.
I am a little surprised he agreed to such a short contract, though. |
