Because come July 1, this team will look mighty different. Of course, as the writer points out, there are other Petr Sykoras out there. And I also don't buy that they'll lose the Ruutu's and Laraque's because they want more ice time. No one is going to give them significantly more ice time than they already get.
But yeah, goodbye Hossa, Malone, Orpik and Conklin for sure.
It is kind of ironic that Detroit will have an easier time maintaining their current roster than Pittsburgh will going forward. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. Hab's will take malone if they can. _________________ The crowd once again showed its IQ level when it shouted ``U-S-A, U-S-A,'' during the fight. Their hero, Downie, is from Newmarket, Ont. |

This team could easily sign a couple guys to big one-year contracts if they wanted. It's 2009-10 that things get a little tricky.
And actually, I think there could be a way they keep Malone looking at it from this perspective. It's how much they want to keep him, and he wants to stay, that is the issue. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? 6 years/30M for Malone. At least.
These guys just need to make sure Malkin and Sid are in the fold for the next ten years. Everything else is gravy. _________________ John McCain is fit as a fiddle… Is 71 the new 30?” - Fox News' Rich Lowry

The good news is they are set on D and in goal pretty much. One new d-man to break in maybe.
Look for Ryan Stone, Tim Brent, Chris Minard and Connor James to get longer looks:

Stone I assume should make it. He was a great junior player, has good playmaking skills and brings some added toughness. Gologoski should be promoted to the open D spot when Orpik goes. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Not that I buy much into the urban myth that is the "hometown discount," but still, you have to consider that Malone might make a little extra effort to re-sign in Pittsburgh. _________________

I think you have to set aside at least $10m per for Malkin, and $5m each for Staal and Fleury. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. Cmon, Crosby took 8.7, so Malkin should be taking 7.1!
I'm looking for Tim Brent to be traded to the Ducks sometime soon.
Luckily for Pitts, Staal didn't score a bajillion shorthanders again this season and has spent pretty much the entire season in a checking role. I'm wondering what kind of effect, if any, that would have on his price... _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Depends how much of a daddy's boy he is, I suppose.
I don't think he will. He'd be a fool not to follow the money. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

They'll also probably sign Ryder for cheap and he'll score 50 goals flanking Sid. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."
