|
|
Hi,
I have a weird question for any of you. I have no idea about ice hockey, I am in the UK and have never watched a game of hockey, have no idea about the game or anything.
The reason I am here is that I have just moved into a house with a weird name, and I am trying to find out a bit of information on the name of our house - "Wicketslap Farmhouse".
Now, when I Google "Wicketslap" I only get a few hits, mainly to do with the houses around mine (the area is also called Wicketslap).
But when I Googled "wicket slap" I got a few hits referring to a "wicket slap shot" in ice hockey.

Now, it's pretty obvious that the house is not named after an ice hockey shot ( the house is about 150 years old!) but I am curious if "wicket slap shot" is a legitimiate saying in ice hockey, or if this is a spelling mistake, and it should be "wicked slap shot" ... I see that "Slap shot" is quite a common term in ice hockey.
Any ideas or thoughts appreciated.
Cheers,
lil' |

Hey how is the mother land? From what I read and here it seems Hockey is growing a little there.
Yes the common saying as you suspected is "Wicked slap shot" which I can confirm as a goalie is a very accurate description for those who have it. Yep sounds like a spelling error. _________________ It's not you Sundin, it's me...please just leave...and don't look back....please please do not look back. |

Yea - looks like it was just a couple of similar typos. Ah well .. I'll keep searching ... although if there's nothing coming up on a Google search, is there any point searching anywhre else? Is there any point searching anywhere other than Google - unless it's something that could be down the back of the sofa.
The "motherland" is good - although the only ice rink I've seen here in Aberdeen is used for curling. Slightly more sedate than ice hockey I guess ;o) |

My mother is from Aberdeen, hence the signature.
Though I do here more of Hockey in England and Ireland for some reason than Scotland. _________________ It's not you Sundin, it's me...please just leave...and don't look back....please please do not look back. |

I beleive the response should be "Wi' ither folks coal!" ... although being from Manchester (England) I guess I would't know! I still stuggle to understand some of the locals here ...
Anyway, going slightly off topic. have a good day - I'm off home soon (it's 15:00 here).
Bring on the weekend! |
