Quote:
One of the biggest Chicago hockey crowds in recent years is expected Friday night as the red-hot Blackhawks continue to cultivate a fan base that's been eroded for a decade.

"Tomorrow night is going to be phenomenal," Hawks GM Dale Tallon told The Canadian Press on Thursday. "The fans are excited again and they should be — these kids play an entertaining game. It's fun to watch them."

With former greats Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita slated to be honoured before the game, some 22,000 fans are expected to cram into the cavernous United Center as the young-and-gun Hawks take on the mighty San Jose Sharks — winners of seven straight.

"Tomorrow night we're sold out and supposedly we're going to have the biggest crowd in a long time," said Hawks head coach Denis Savard. "It's a great feeling. The credit goes to the players, they're the ones who changed this around here."

If the Hawks can win tonight... they'd be 2 points back of the Canucks for 8th (who'd have a game in hand) and 4 points back of the Avalanche for 7th (same GP). Nashville would be 2 points back in 9th with the same amount of GP.

You know what'd be the cherry on top to this comeback season for hockey in Chicago? A first round matchup vs. Detroit.

This is a very exciting team to watch right now as are the Avalanche.

Welcome back, Bobby Hull.

Quote:
Steve Simmons, Toronto Sun: My thumb is up to the Chicago Blackhawks who on Friday night welcomed back the legends Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita. For Hull it's been 36 years that he has been estranged from the franchise. Since the time he signed with the WHA he has not been welcomed back until Rocky Wirtz took over the franchise and changed just about everything about the Blackhawks. Friday night, there was Hull, there was Mikita with a sell-out crowd of 22,000 people cheering them on. What made it better was that the game was on local television, which meant a great deal to the city. Hull back in Chicago, the Blackhawks back in vogue?! This can't be anything but good news for hockey.

Thank you, Rocky Wirtz.

I don't know what became of his ex-wife's accusations of physical abuse, but Bobby Hull was the very definition of a star during his playing days, and one of the most approachable athletes for fan interaction to ever play the game. He will still be a great ambassador for the Hawks.

Maybe not, but barring a major injury to Toews, this team will be in the playoffs next year. Sask, we talked previously about the Hawks going after a guy like Boyle or Redden. Would you like to see Chicago make a big push to get Hossa?

Is anyone wearing the C right now? Should Toews get it this year? Shocked

I would absolutely be in heaven for this. An Original 6 first round series. This would be the shits. Hell yeah!!! The second best thing about it would be no fuckin' west coast travel and 10:30 PM starts back in ole Detroit for 1/2 the games.
