Red Wings forward Kirk Maltby isn't sure he'll be ready for Game 1 of the second round.
And even if Maltby is ready, coach Mike Babcock said Tuesday he wasn't sure he'd play him in Game 1, anyway.
Maltby, 35, missed the first round of the playoffs with a hamstring injury.
"He's a real good penalty killer, he's a real good skater, he's physical, he's a pest, he's an agitator," Babcock said. But "I liked our lineup the other night. I'm not a big change guy when things go right. So, I don't know the answer to that question. Until he's healthy enough, I don't have to deal with it." |
Dunno who'd sit when he's ready to return. Possibly Helm, but he's been playing well. Samuelsson? Who knows. Hudler has played well in a limited offensive role on the 4th line and on the 2nd PP. Not having to play against the other team's top scoring lines or top checkers gives his offensive skills some room while limiting the kind of mistakes that top scorers will pounce on. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

God, PLEASE no Grind Line in this series...we'll have enough problems containing the Wings without those guys running all over us. |

Detroit has more guys now to grind down the Avs D than they used to. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Fine by me, so long as it's not those fuckers...nothing was more frustrating than watching those guys seemingly own us over the years.
I think though that nowadays the #1 foil for the Avs is Mule. I expect him to have a pretty big series against Colorado, even bigger than BigDumbSwede. Both are just the kinds of players the Avs have real trouble with. |

Yup, and Mule can play the shutdown center role. Holmer was just a big pain in the ass in front of the net. I'd love to see Mule leaning heavy on Forsberg the entire series. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

As if this series didn't have enough "Back to the Future" elements... now Av is worried about Maltby returning and the Grind Line reforming... fuck, this series is hilarious and sad. _________________ "Oh my God. Hey, Detroit is a lot less sad than Colorado in this regard. And considering how old some of Detroit's guys are, that's impressive. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. There is no rivalry here anymore. Only the media drudges up the past.
I do admit, though, that I still replay that famous game seven with Roy's statue of liberty pose. THAT was hilarious. _________________ No one can make you feel inferior without your permission. |

There's no rivalry anymore, ala that late 90's Detroit - Colorado rivalry, but it is still going to be a good, well played, series. I am going to game 5 and game 7, if necessary. The 2008 RW / Dwight playoff run has started. _________________ "The greatest victory a man can win is victory over himself."
