Well, we know one thing... the Flames are not the team you can't touch right now, since they aren't red hot. That'd be the Sharks.
But did they peak too early? Did they beat up too much on lesser teams? Are they ready for the physical challenge of the playoffs?
The Flames will ride their healthy veteran core as far as they can go. X-Factors could be the "old team" motivation... it's Nolan and Kiprusoff playing the Sharks. Roenick is playing against Keenan, which is an interesting storyline as well.
But can the Flames handle the puck-moving skills of Campbell, and the speed of the Sharks attack in general? The Flames are old, and old school in style.
Both used their starters A LOT during the regular season as well... are either of them worn down already? _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. I like how you don't mention the coaching matchup. Appropriate. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Well, I breifly mentioned Keenan in regards to Roenick, but I'm merely just trying to start these threads right now before the series start. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Didn't Thornton also briefly play under Keenan? I would just kind of assume there'd be some bad blood there. _________________

Actually there should be anything but...Thornton finally blossomed as a star under Keenan's wing. Remember for every 5-10 players whose careers Keenan derails there's always one player who shines. |

The Flames are going to make this a tougher series than anyone imagines. Don't get me wrong I am damned impressed by the Sharks but they still have to lose the playoff choker label they have picked up over the past thre or so years. As to the Flames you are talking a playoff team through and through. You put Kiprusoff in net, Phanuef and Regher on D and Iginla, Langkow and Tanguay on the forwards and it'll be a tough, brutal, series. This one may be the ugliest, but most tension filled, 1st round series in the playoffs. It will be scrappy. Calgary always finds the next gear when the playoffs start. Can San Jose? I'm still going with San Jose but an upset with Calgary winning would not surprise me in the least. _________________ "The greatest victory a man can win is victory over himself."

Calgary did not find an extra gear last year or the year before... Kiprsuoff showed up vs. Detroit while his team sat around watching and Calgary got bullied badly by Anaheim in 2006. This Calgary core is just not the same as the lunchpail crew of 2004, and this crew MUST show up or else Sutter's going to start getting on the hotseat.
It's speed and youth vs. brawn and experience, that's for sure. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

The Flames are geared for the Playoffs....if they can't find that next gear then I am the first in line calling for staff heads. _________________ -UP THE IRONS! |

Fuck yeah! This is some good hockey!
Gotta love that the whole Flames team is sporting the Travis Bickle haircut.
This goal better stand. |

Fuck yes. 3-1 and two for Stephane Yelle!
I've said it before and I'll say it again - we better make damn sure he retires a Flame. |

I only got to see the second period but sounds like this game was a lot like the last one the two teams played in SJ with the sharks outshooting but not really dominating and the Flames getting some timely and opportunistic goals.
Clowe looked good - ran over Dion twice in one shift! |

So did no one realize these guys played Game 2 tonight?
All I can say is... wow, fun to watch goaltending like that. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

That save late in the game by Nabby was robbery!
Clowe has been looking really effective. |

Great game. Nabby is sick. Pavelski played awesome. Cheechoo looked a little lost out there he needs to find his groove. Even with that not having him out there for that 5 on 3 was stupid, RW was back to his old line-shuffling tricks.
I knew this would be a very tough series. The Flames are a very dangerous match-up for anyone. _________________

Sorry man.......I can't handle back to back late games on a work night. Especially after a demoralizing Bruins loss. I did manage to watch the first period.....and I knew the Flames were in trouble and that Nabokov was on his game. I suppose I didn't expect them to parade the box and unravel discipline wise. I will tolerate it for one game I suppose. _________________ -UP THE IRONS! |

To be fair, some of the calls were VERY marginal. That much time on a 5 on 3... and Kipper almost killed it completely. 9 more seconds... he was covering the puck when a Shark batted it loose and Mitchell just happened to be in the right spot to swat it in the empty side. If they had killed the final 9 seconds, they would've had so much postive momentum that you just expect they would've tied it up.
The goaltending was amazing last night. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

At least the Flames had the decency to only take 3:30 to get down 3-0 so I can shut this off and work on the term paper...
Guess this is what happens when not even Kipper shows up.
