Strachan just says what the rest of us think:
http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/8331258/NHL's-financial-system-is-as-broken-as-ever
The headline leading into this article was certainly one I'd be proud of had I thought of it..."Full of Cap." |

For the most part sour grapes from bitter Al.
The cap is alright. Salaries are tied to revenues, so if your team isn't up to snuff revenue-wise to make the floor right now, there is no conceivable system of revenue sharing that will help you. The new CBA was never going to solidify the 30 team league - by design it was going to expose hopeless teams over a five year cycle. People whine about how the payrolls are bigger now than they were pre-lockout, but in truth the Rangers/Leafs/Wings payrolls could easily be approaching 100M right now without a hard cap.
There are more solid teams today than there were 5 years ago. I think that's a success. The teams barely treading water at this stage will never be able to survive in a revenue-growing operation, which is where the NHL is at.
The teams that are complaining about this are mostly teams put in place due to easy arena and real estate around said arena. The Coyotes were never meant to be a serious hockey team - it was just some dude who wanted to build condos and a shopping mall and figured he could squeeze some bucks out of the City of Glendale to help with his business operation. He figured at a 25M payroll he could easily recoup that money elsewhere. Now that more owners are serious about hockey, all of a sudden he has to step his game up and spend 40M on a team. The league will be better off without these losers, who were never interested in advancing the game down South. _________________ It seems like you need to be a physics professor to choose the right TV. Given the lack of a proof read I wish you hadn't as well. _________________ It's not you Sundin, it's me...please just leave...and don't look back....please please do not look back. |
