As usual, the story about the true extent of injuries comes out after the playoffs:

Some final thoughts tonight (OK, this morning) after watching the Stanley Cup wheeled out of the Wings' locker room to the team bus in a shopping cart littered with empty beer cans:
Injuries? Yeah, they had a few. More than a few, actually. Talked to a champagne-soaked trainer, Piet van Zant, in the Zamboni entrance a couple hours ago and his initial response was, "Everybody was playing through something." But then he rattled off the abridged version:
Tomas Holmstrom was playing with a sports hernia (for a long time) and a torn hamstring.
Valtteri Filppula wasn't practicing because of a fairly signficant knee injury.
Brad Stuart also was playing with a knee injury that would've had him sitting in the regular season. Darren Helm limped out of there tonight with a nasty Charley horse.
And, yes, there was more than just concussion-like symptoms plaguing Johan Franzen, but van Zant said the team and Franzen will wait a day or two before explaining what exactly went on with that whole saga.
There's more than that, obviously, but it gives you an idea of just why we call this the toughest trophy in sports to win. |

I remember after they lost to Anaheim in '03, 8 or 9 Minny guys went under the knife, including Gaborik. _________________ Bring back the old OTP!

Ahhhhhh. Complete and utter satisfaction. Now to spend the rest of the summer basking in the Stanley Cup victory before starting it up all over again in September. It is going to be a great summer here in Michigan. _________________ "The greatest victory a man can win is victory over himself."

Thanks, Sask. Some pretty bitter NJ fans there.
Detroit does know how to throw a parade - been doing it for 100 years down Woodward. Thanksgiving Day Parade second largest in the US. Not the fault of cities who have to hurry to arrange one after a Cup. In Detroit, the Parade Comission is set and ready to go, route pre-determined, plus 1,000 parade volunteers to call on for help.
So Rafalski's comment, while seemingly flip, is not a dismissal of other cities. At least not in the eyes of the people in Michigan.
But on the other hand...we did have 1 million people show up. _________________ No one can make you feel inferior without your permission. |
