I started this last year and we've gotten through October so we can have a better idea of who and what nightly matchups may be the most intriguing to watch. This could be especially intersting for the subscribers to the NHL Center Ice package.
The early games...
1.) Philadelphia at Montreal: (7:30 PM EST) Both teams have been playing well. Philadelphia is a nice 7 - 3 - 0 with 14 points in 10 games to start the season while Montreal is at 6 - 2 - 3 with 15 points in 11 games played. For Philadelphia Scotty Upshall is set to return. Briere and Biron lead the way. Montreal can go with either Huet or Price in net. Saku Koivu is in a little hot water with the media for a his lack of French speaking skills. Kovalev leads Montreal's scoring.
2.) Detroit at Calgary: (8:00 PM EST) The first round playoff rematch in Calgary. Detroit already won the first match in Detroit in October. Calgary struggled early but has been coming on lately and always comes to play when Detroit is in town. Kiprusoff, who just signed a big contract, always plays tough against Detroit. This is Detroit's last game for about a week. So they will want to put on a good performance before the league gives them a mini vacation. I expect a good hard hitting, low scoring affair if Osgood starts in net for Detroit. Jimmy Howard might get a start just to see how he has progressed. Hasek is fine but the Red Wings won't play him until a week from now against Nashville. Detroit leads the NHL at 10 - 2 - 1 with 21 points in 13 games. Calgary is 6 - 3 - 3 with 15 points. A good game to see for a hockey fan.
3.) St. Louis at Minnesota: (8;00 PM EST) Minnesota is no secret. They are one of the top teams in the west this year and have had a great start at 7 - 3 - 2 with 16 points. Rolston and Bouchard are the top scoreres for the Wild. Top goalie Backstrom injured a groin in practice Saturday. Don't be fooled. St. Louis is a little uneven at times, I've seen a couple of their games. They do come to play every night. The Blues look like they are ready to possibly return to the playoffs. The young defense plays hard. The addition of Kariya has worked well. He really fits in well with this team. He likes playing with this team and they like him. Manny Legace is playing his typical solid game. The Blues are 6 - 4 - 0 with 12 points and you don't know who will show up, the team that beat Washington's butt or the team that laid an egg against Phoenix. It will likely be an intersting game regardless.
The later games...
1.) Pittsburgh at Colorado: (9:00 PM EST) This could be a lot of fun to watch just from a hockey fan's perspective. Pittsburgh is strugging a little bit at 6 - 4 - 1 and 13 points. I believe everybody is familiar with who Pittsburgh plays so I won't belabor the issue. The Pen's are playing streaky. They can just go quiet for stretchwes and then they can explode for a number of goals in just minutes. Marc-Andre Fleury is taking some heat from the Pittsburgh faithful for inconsistent play in net. Colorado has also bounced back nicely this year from the previous two disappointments. They are at 7 - 4 - 0 with 14 points. Paul Stastney is swiftly becoming a really nice hockey player. Budaj and Theodore split goal tending duties with Budaj handling the majority of the games played. They are pretty equal in GAA and Sv.P. This game should be wide open with high scoring. A fun watch.
and finally...
2.) Columbus at Anaheim: (10:00 PM EST) On paper this doesn't look so good. It has an intersting set of subplots. Anaheim is out for revenge for a hit on Travis Moen by Columbus' Jared Boll. Fisticuffs are quite possible. Mathieu Schneider is also finally making his 2007 - 2008 debut, so Anaheim is starting to get a little more healthy. While Anaheim is still at 4 - 7 - 2 for 10 points this is the defending Stanley Cup Champions and they are getting grumpy. Coumbus is 2nd in the Central Division at 7 - 3 - 1 with 15 points. Pascal Leclair has a 1.25 GAA a .953 Sv.P and already has racked up 4 shutouts. The Blue Jackets finally have found how to win. Federov and Nash are leading the way offensively. Columbus has 4 straight wins coming into tonight's tilt. Expect fireworks.

Sorry, that turned out to be a pretty decent game too. I blew it with Ottawa and Atlanta too although in my defense Ottawa did have a 5 - 0 lead in the 3rd. Hey, nobody's perfect...
