PREVIEW
First matchup between these two teams since Armstrong and Lites were squeezed out like a Chipotle breakfast. The Stars will be desperate to avoid their first five-game losing streak in 29 years. The Avs will hopefully be equally desperate to remain atop the Northwest and also improve their rather weak road record.
Some notes on the game:
After a wrist injury and lengthy rehab, Brad Richardson returns to the Avalanche roster, not sure if Q will elect to suit him up. A concern is that with this wrist injury his booming shot (arguably the most accurate, if not most powerful as well) will suffer as a result. He'll probably start on the fourth line, playing left wing with some sporadic work on the PK, which has also suffered of late. Richie brings speed and grit to the lineup, and of course can chip in from time to time, but not a lot of size.
Ian Laperriere will not be dressed for Colorado due to a knee injury.
Mattias Norstrom and Brad Winchester remain out for the Stars with injuries.
Some players to watch:
Paul Stastny: The biggest offensive threat the Avs have, he seems to be suffering from a hockey form of "Coors Field Syndrome," he simply hasn't been nearly as effective on the road as he is at home. He'll have a chance to prove otherwise tonight against a Stars team that is still languishing in mediocrity.
Mike Modano: Simply put, he needs to play better. Now that the whole record garbage is out of the way Mo needs to galvanize an offense that has been up to this point in the season, inept.
Marty Turco: He played disastrously in the first game between these two teams, to the point where even Tippett called him out. From what I'm reading about Turco he's none too happy about the way things are in Dallas at present. Will he have to play his best hockey to end the losing streak? Will he want to?
Brett Hull: Could the new co-GM suit up tonight? Couldn't hurt offensive production any... |

| Oh, almost forgot, one guy who has given the Avs fits in the past is Loui Eriksson, who was recently recalled and expected to play on one of the top lines. I read somewhere Halpern (who is a natural winger I believe) has been playing on one of the top lines. Not really certain how the heck Dallas's lines shake out anymore, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Tippett try a Eriksson-Modano-Lehtinen line to start things. |

Mike Smith in net for Dallas, Jose Theodore in net for Colorado.
Had no idea Smith was so friggin' huge...6'4" 230 lbs.!!! I certainly hope for Theo's sake the goalies don't fight in this one.
Anyway, Avs getting thoroughly outworked. Not sure why since it hasn't worked all season but Q has Smyth and Brunette on a line w/Sakic. Both are too similar in style and just too plain slow. I guess Svatos is back in the doghouse, he's on the third line w/Arnason.
Jussi Jokinen skates right through Jeff Finger and like that it's 1-0 Stars. Avs look a little flat right now... |

End of 1, 1-0 Stars. Any team with even a decent offense would've put up about 5 goals in that period, the Avs were thoroughly outworked, outhit, and outskated in every zone.
Finger and Wolski with thoroughly awful games thus far. JF especially looks lost and tentative out there. Clark with a goal saving block in front of a WIDE OPEN net.
Theo has looked, well, very Theo. Given he was being peppered from every conceivable angle I don't suppose I should bitch about his play. |

Wow. Theo pulled after Jokinen scores FOUR GOALS and it's 5-0 Stars.
What a deplorable effort.
Hey is there still time to put in that waiver claim? |

Hey, sweet! Some team is playing worse than Montreal did tonight! _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."

I should have got in here earlier....
It's about time the Stars got their shit together...now if they could just do it consistantly it would be a different story.
