In typical fashion, we owned the faceoff circle and controlled most of the play, outshooting Carolina 38-17. The score was not a great indicator of the game that Ward played. He made some excellent saves.
We were 60% in the faceoff circle without our best faceoff man in Draper, and were 65% against Brind'Amour.
Datsyuk scored a textbook Datsyuk goal: Carolina was breaking out of their zone inside of the blue line, and one Carolina player was trying to angle Datsyuk away from the puck carrier. Datsyuk got a step around him, made a poke check on the puck carrier, curled outside the guy to pick it up on the fly, came in on Ward holding the puck on his backhand and switching it back to his forehand and burying it blocker side in one fast motion. Great goal.
6 wins in a row now, 3 in a row in 3 straight starts for Hasek, who is looking sharper than he was at the beginning of the season.
Hudler is making some great plays with the puck, especially on the PP where he has some more time and space to operate. His skating has also improved since the beginning of the year. Apparently he's been working with Draper. He had 3 assists last night. The second PP has a very different look to it than the first unit. Hudler, Franzen and Cleary are all able to set up shop in the right faceoff circle for one-timers. Franzen and Cleary both park themselves in front of the net, too. Kronwall currently has a 6-game point streak going.
We're currently 4-5-2 against our own division and 18-1 agains the rest of the NHL _________________ Bring back the old OTP!
