It's official...
Sabres dropping Amerks as affiliate
then in today's paper
Ruff, players lament split
This really sucks for bothe clubs and both cities. It was a very unqiue situation with benefits on both sides. Being so close made last minutes call up possible. Just a hour and half drive down the Thruway. Last year Drew Stafford drove back and forth almost daily to save salary cap room.
Both cities are small markets that struggle finanacially. Both teams benenfit from regionalization.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Amerks didn't exist any more very soon.
(Forgot to add)
The main reason, I think, is the fact that the Amerks are being run into the ground.

That sucks. The Amerks were the one constant in a revolving door league. _________________ John McCain is fit as a fiddle… Is 71 the new 30?” - Fox News' Rich Lowry

The name "Rochester Americans" goes waaaaaay back, I'd hate to see it go away.
Very unfortunate, not sure why the Amerks chose not to sell to Golisano. |
