That was a whoppin,
Ryder with 2 giving him 3 in the last 2 games. He could be a 40 goal guy if he keeps up this pace...
that would be hot... _________________ The crowd once again showed its IQ level when it shouted ``U-S-A, U-S-A,'' during the fight. Their hero, Downie, is from Newmarket, Ont. |

I missed the third, of course. Had to do some food shopping after getting back from vacation (Christmas with the family, then skiing in Jasper/Marmot over New Year's).
Good show. Haven't seen the goals in the 3rd, but Ryder's goal in the 2nd was an actual Michael Ryder goal, unlike the tap in he got from Higgins against New York. He picked the puck off the glass in the netural zone, skated down the ice on the off-wing and fired a beauty wrister to the top right corner, beating Ramo glove side. I think that might be his first actual Michael Ryder-esque goal of the season. That, more so than the goal vs. the Rangers, is the one that might get the monkey off his back.
Higgins-Lapierre-Ryder seems to actually be working as a checking unit that can score. It's good to get Saku off that matchup role and spread the offense around. We have offensive ability, it's just a matter of finding the right role for each player. Saku on the 2nd makes sense. Higgins needs a prominent role, however, not a support one. Putting him on the checking unit is great, and Max seems to be able to skate with him whereas Chipchura might not be able to keep up.
This is refreshing. Beat the top Quebecois players in the league in Montreal, and have momentum coming out of Christmas rather than trying to re-start over sometime around the All-Star break.
Ramo is by far the best goalie the Lightning have, but that team is a mess without Boyle anchoring the D and any leadership up front amongst the support cast. Feaster's done a terrible job building around the big 3. I do think they miss Taylor a lot.
Ramo, as a young goalie, will overcommit and is suspect on rebounds and with patient shooters. Great mobility and reflexes, poor control. Pretty easy to realize that his main problem is his youth.
Here's a question for you... who's this team's MVP? I can't pinpoint it. It's clear we have 2 "Big 3's" of our own working for us. A Big 3 on D with Markov, Komisarek, and Hamrlik; and a Big 3 up front with Higgins, Kovalev, and Plekanec. Combine that with highly a competent, sometimes brilliant goaltending tandem... we might finally be building something here.
Brisebois is apparently clear to play. But why bother? He should be a solid #8 on our defensive depth chart now even in the coaching staff's eyes. I'm not sure who is our #6 if it's Streit or Gorges yet. Streit has looked great from what I've seen since being shifted back to D with O'Byrne out, making some great breakout plays. _________________ "Oh my God. There she is. Lovely Sally Slater. I should speak to her. But what the hell can I say? Anything that doesn't mention that I masturbate over her memory is probably a good idea."
