Well my game attendance has dropped significantly over the past few years. Frankly I just can't afford it anymore. Yeah my family has grown but I don't see that as the main reason. I can't afford $55 for nosebleeds in the 3rd level.....I can't afford $6.25 for a beer.......I only had two this last time. $8 for Nacho's.....5.50 for a Soda........Parking starting at $15. I just can't do it.
I used to love attending games at McNichols for $20 or even the Early days at the Pepsi center where I could score a nose bleed for $30 and $4.75 beers. The current product is not worth spending that type of money to see it in person. I'd rather go watch the Mammoth and get some value out of it.

and those are pricey tickets, for Canucks games, nosebleeds are 35 bux.
and no-one ever drives there, skytrain goes right beside it, and they all eat at costco now across the street |

Get drunk before the game, that's how everyone else does it. They also don't check for non-metallic flasks.
As for NHL games being out of your price range, welcome to the increasingly bigger club. The truth is as long as people/companies/suckers are willing to pay much higher prices for tickets, I can't fault owners for keeping prices high. They don't owe me any special favours, so there's little I can and will do.
I would like to see more family oriented/college student discount walk up rates on game day in markets that could use a few more spectators.

The fucking suits can have the luxury suites. Keep the goddamn seats for the public.
Hockey is an elitist sport. The only kids that get to go watch games live are those with well heeled parents. Hockey is already way too pricey for kids to play, and now they can't watch either. The clear message both from the amateur and professional ranks, is that hockey is a game for the upper class.
There's something to be said for soccer... |

That's the greatest thing about soccer. You need something resembling a ball to play, that's it. If only hockey was so accessible.

That's why my LEafs/Habs tix went on Ebay this year.
Just much too expensive for me - they lost anyway. Big suprise there.
Minor league hockey is the way to go .... I just wish we had that up here; we do have the UVM Catamounts at least though.
Ticket prices will continue to increase until they stop selling out buildings.
Professional sports are more a business now a days then anything else.

UVM is a higher level of hockey than I have.
I shouldn't complain, though. I've got the WHL as well as CIAU (Canadian University) to watch. CIAU hockey is very criminally underrated in this country, and is generally a higher level of hockey than major junior since most players are major junior graduates at an older age anyways. Just lacks the star power of major junior.

| Uh... no. If they were good enough to play in the NHL they'd be there, or in the AHL, instead of the CIAU. Anyone who played major junior and moves on to the CIAU just isn't good enough to play professionally, or are so fringe that they realize they need to get on with life. |

In reality, that's only about 10-15% of WHL players that move on up to the pro ranks. CIAU gets the average WHL player on a full scholarship, and sometimes a pretty good one.
So you get the average WHL player who is 20-24 instead of 16-20, making it a higher level of competition.
That goalie that suited up for Edmonton was actually a pretty good WHL goalie for 3-4 full seasons before moving on to the University of Alberta. I'd guess he's a better goalie now than he was in his junior days.

There are plenty of guys playing in the CHL, SPHL and other minor-pro leagues who played much lower hockey than major junior. The guys in major junior who go on to university aren't guys who aren't good enough to play minor pro, they are guys that realize that going to school so they can get an entry-level job that is going to pay them more than $500 per week that playing in the minor pros just to ride buses is going to get them. Many of the guys who shirk going to CIAU for playing minor pro are the guys who are fringe but don't realize that they need to get on with life...

If I had a kid that played in the WHL and got no interest from any league higher than the ECHL I'd advise him to take the CIAU scholarship, get a degree and if he still is interested in hockey see if there's more interest when he's 24. Chances are that "sweet gig" in Tulsa will still be there at 24 if he really wants it.

I think I can afford this however I haven't checked the current prices. I still owe you an AVs game.
I am thoroughly disturbed that my beloved sport has been turned into a corporate whore. I officially blame Bettman.
Now I am sure the NHL will begin to work on pricing me out of the Center Ice package.....they already started with their $25 increase this year.
Where I used to get games online for free now I am told that I am being given a discount at $80.....since I already subscribe to the Centre Ice feed.  Nickel and dime, nickel and dime......see how far they can get. I guess it doesn't matter if corporate america is swallowing the cost......they've basically told me that they could care less about my $50. Sad state of affairs.
