For those unaware of Offthepost's KIVA micro-credit campaign, we are the single largest lender to Tina's Drinking Spot, a watering hole in Ghana's capital of Accra.

On OTP: Generation One we had a sticky with the planning process and periodic repayment updates. I noticed that a repayment is scheduled for today, so I thought we should put the sticky back up.

Here is the official site:

Should be paid off on Dec. 12!

I guess our next OTP sponsored venture begins then?

I am assuming this would be correct.

I just realized I'm investing in the wrong Ghanaese store. My entrepreneur is almost done paying back her loan, so I'll make sure we're all in the same boat next time around.

Tina has made another payment.

She's lucky... I was just about to send someone over to Ghana to smash her kneecaps.

Were you going to be forced in a negative way that might affect all and sundry? Wink

Tina has repaid the loan. We now need to go searching for another OTP sponsered micro loan.

We are very pleased to notify you that the business you have loaned to, Tina's Drinking Spot run by Augustina Ayaah, has repaid the full amount of this loan $800.00. The payment was collected and deposited by Kraban Support Foundation (KSF).

The funds from this repayment will be deposited in your Kiva account as
"Available Kiva Credit" in the next 2 to 3 days. At that time, you can
re-lend these funds to a new business, withdraw them into a PayPal
account or you can donate them to Kiva.org's operational expenses. For
further instructions regarding any of these processes, please visit our
help center: http://www.kiva.org/about/help.

Or, to view your Kiva loan portfolio go to: http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=account.

Best wishes,

Kiva Staff

Good job, the loan I did a day or two after you guys filled up the drinking spot is only 66% paid back. But it is being paid back.

Yup, I agree, if it involves drugs, prostitution, or drinking we should invest. At the very least we know those three industries have a built-in demand!

Seriously if anyone comes up with another viable candidate let me know, I'll do some searching myself when we have the time.

Well this is interesting news, there's no one left to fund! Laughing

Thanks Kiva Lenders!

You've funded EVERY business on the site!!

Our website is experiencing record traffic from recent press we've received, and because generous lenders like you are supporting small business entrepreneurs in the developing world this season of giving.

Please check back again soon. (Press Ctrl-D to bookmark the website.) Kiva Field Partners around the globe are approving new loan applications and posting new businesses on the site each day. We hope that you'll soon find an entrepreneur you'd like to lend to.

That's amazing success... they should expand to allow a grant program too, so that people can actually donate (rather than lend) sums like $5 to $50 that do go a long way in the developing world, without having intervening organizations. People like Kiva do great work, but no doubt people would be happy to know that 100% of a donation is going to its target (which is also not a charity case, but rather fostering economic activity).

It would be cool if we could find a mailing address for Tina and send her some OTP memorabilia. Of course, knowing postal systems pretty much everywhere in Africa, she'd only get an empty envelope, but still...

That's crazy, every freakin' business! I've got a couple of three-year old ponies that could use a microfinancing loan, if anyone wants to hit Saratoga next weekend?

In the email that I received, they do say that you can donate your money to Kiva.

I had no idea that this was 100% repaid. Excellent that means I have some money back to reinvest.

Yeah...sorry I won't be donating to Kiva's operating expenses.

Maybe another site is in order? Didn't RW bring this up last time?

Which is 0% going to the entrepreneurs. I'm talking about actual grants in the same fashion we currently make loans. Micro-grants directly to the businesses, for those who don't feel the need to recoup their loans.

I made 5 loans all around the time of the Tina's loan and 3 have been fully paid back and the other two are 50% and 67% paid.

I'm down for the next OTP investment for sure. I did a quick search and found nothing that matched any of the following terms: liquor, bar, beer, alcohol.

For making donations this site is very cool - www.globalgiving.com. You are donating to projects though, not entrepreneurs.

See above -- you'll find zero no matter what you search, as they're all tapped out!

Microcredit is really remarkable.

I just looked and there's 36 businesses that need lending. I wonder if they're going up and getting filled really quickly?
