Shot after the horn by Datsyuk. That's something I've never seen him do. He's not a dirty player by any stretch of the imagination.

Shootout time.

Zetterberg fools Luongo and gets him to open up the five-hole large. I think maybe Luongo was expecting him to go back the other way because Zetterberg was waiting so long on the backhand, and he didn't so Louie had to stretch out.

3-2 shootout win over the Nucks, 3-0 on the season. Luongo was great and Detroit pounded the hell out of the Nucks in shots.

I hate 2-goal leads Mad

Can only go by the highlights I watched this morning, but Daniel Cleary, WTF?! Looked like he had a monster game.

Glad to see Alex Edler try a slapper on the shootout, even if it was his first unsuccessful try (Edler and Linden both miss... d'Oh!). Although I'd rather he fake the slapper and then make his move right after. And as mentioned many times, I'd like to see Sami Salo tried on the shootout for similar reasons.

These are the games where Luongo thrives -- where he sees a lot of rubber, but the shot totals are still a little overstated (from what I've read) since many of them are coming from the outside. It keeps him sharp, and keeps him in the game for the better chances.

I understand that the Wings announced Näslund's 1,000th game and put some graphics up on the scoreboard. See, the older franchises know how to be classy hosts, unlike certain other franchise-come-latelys which refuse even to show opposition goals on replay. Wink

Detroit had a lot of shots from the outside, but still had quite a few decent chances from in close. I think some of the shots from the outside were catching him by surprise a little bit because he was giving up a few rebounds that I don't normally think he would. No goals came of them though, and he played great.

Well, two goals came from deflections of outside shots, so perhaps it was a strategy of Detroit's as a way to get the puck to the front of the net.

Cleary's second wasn't. That was good work by your boy Voltron and then a nice little pass when he was going to the middle.

Unless you're talking about the Naslund goal off of Rafalski's skate as the second.

Just an offside here: one of the classiest things I've seen is when we won the CUP over the Carolina Hurricanes. Compuware Owner (based in Detroit) put up a huge banner on Compuware headquarters congratulating the Wings. Very Classy.

Yeah, a classy move Karmanos. Though I'm not sure the fans of the Hurricanes would have been too pleased that their own owner was congratulating the team that beat them Laughing

Who knows, maybe it was part of a bet, like how premiers/mayors/governors make when the sports teams in their jurisdictions face each other for the championship.

Could very well have been, but a congratulations Carolina Hurricanes banner may have looked a little odd in Detroit Laughing I'm not sure if Illitch has any assets in Raleigh...
