Bell is out an additional 8 wks. I guess Ryan Malone really did clock him. Guy is having facial surgery now! Shocked So once the season is over, Bell has to go to jail. He showed a bit of spirit on the ice form time to time, but the majority of the games; you would hardly know he was playing. Really, I didn't even notice he was out of the lineup. He's probably done with the Leafs, which is fine w/ Leafs Nation I'm sure. Perhaps he will play a small handful of games w/ the Leafs as the season winds down. There won't be any takers for him via trade - maybe the waiver wire, but that would be it. I believe he is a UFA after this season anyway.

As for the Big Swede:
http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Toronto/2008/01/18/4780135-sun.html

Both Vancouver & Calgary seem like good fits. I'm sure we can scratch Anaheim, unless of course Selanne does decide to sit out the remainder of the season.

Who else may be on the move?

As much as I hate to say it; Tucker perhaps? He's my favorite player on the Leafs, so I would hate to see him go, but while struggling w- a gimpy knee, his season has been one to forget. He would be a great asset for a playoff bound club.

McCabe: Will he waive the no-movement clause? More importantly, would anybody take him?

Kubina: Makes a lot of money.

Kaberle: Would bring a great deal via trade (given, a competent GM was making the move). But is it worth the Leafs parting with there best defensemen? Somebody's going to have to play back there next season.

Blake: I doubt there will be any takers at $4 million per year.

Antropov/Ponikarovsky: I would just love to see both of these guys pack there bags. Antropov's value is at the highest it's ever been; save perhaps the year he was drafted.

Raycroft: New GM will have him on waivers.

If I were GM of the Leafs, I'd buy out Raycroft instead of waive him. Sure, it's a cap hit for 2 years and while the Leafs can put a $2m player in the minors, I'd let it be an indication that I wasn't going to use every last available inch of cap space on the current roster. In fact, I might not buy out Raycroft, but buy out Kubina instead if I couldn't find a suitable trade partner. Problem with Kubina is that it would be a cap hit for 6 years at this point, so I don't think I'd do that yet. Wait another year maybe instead on that one.

Butch you can't stand the idea of losing Tucker, but can't wait to get rid of Antropov?

Anyway anyone worth anything and over 25 go ahead and trade for youth and picks, big deal you miss the playoffs for a few more years...miss and miss good. Besides the Leafs can cut payroll to under forty million for those couple of years and then the parties interested in more money also get more money.

If Vancouver took one of the albatross contracts off Toronto's hands I'm sure you could get him for Ryan Shannon and Mike Weaver. Laughing

hands off mini Shanny.. he's a 50 goal scorer trapped in a 2 goal scorers body.

they've been tossing around the same package here through the sports talk shows.. a young roster player , a top prospect , 1st rd pick and another high pick. Everyone in Vancouver gives the same answer , everybody wants SUndin but how much is too much.

Though I've been against rentals for Nonis , I thought of a new perspective that makes it more tempting for Canucks fans. If the Canucks were to obtain Sundin , would that lure FOrsberg(assuming he's good to go) to Vancouver? hence it would be like Vancouver trading for 2 rent-a-players... in theory that is. They could afford it in salary. SOmething I was thinking about making the SUndin temptation even more tempting.

Which Vancouver's version would be something like this:

Edler or Bourdon
One of Kesler, Raymond, Grabner, White, Schneider (wild card)
2 1st round picks

Other potential wildcards: Hansen, McIntyre... basically anyone signed by the Canucks that's under 24. Kraijeck would be another wildcard, I suppose.

Leafs call up Boyce (not quite Boyes), a guy who played in the CIAU for a couple of years. Cool. He's also a PEI native, which is unusual.

Apparently Boyce hurt his shoulder last night as well? I'm not sure - I didn't really watch the game, but apparently he has a seperated shoulder.

Steen is out as well now.

Man, ol' Cliff has his work cut out for him!

These folks all have no trade clauses:

Tomas Kaberle, D
Pavel Kubina, D
Bryan McCabe, D
Mats Sundin, C
Darcy Tucker, LW/RW

Sundin w- the no trade I can understand, but the others? Not to kick the man after he's been booted; but man, he fucked this team up royally!

Hopefully he dumps Antropov while his value is highest ... he's really the only moveable asset unless he can convince any of the above to waive there no-trade.

Yeah, Maurice said it was as bad as Poni's injury. What a shitty first game...

Was it Steen? I thought it was Antropov, but I know both got hurt at least a little in that game.

That's a lot of NTC's. You have to think some of the others have limited trade clauses as well (a list of teams they're okay with being traded to). I'd think Blake would have one of those as well, maybe Toskala.

I have to think that if he can convince Sundin to waive his NTC, the others would follow. It's making deals on some of the others that's the first challenge, though.

McCabe's salary for the last 3 years of his deal go $6.15, $4.15, $4.15. It might be tough to move him at $6.15m for next year, but the last two years if he maintains a decent preformance level should be easier. A cap hit is just a number for some teams, as they have no ambition to spend near the ceiling. A lot of teams are just on a budget, so $4.15m for McCabe isn't that bad to them... helps the PP, plays top 4 minutes 5 on 5.

Kubina's a sold $5m for the next 2 years. They'd have to take someone back a la the Aucoin/Zyzuin swap, but probably a little more significant than the Zyzuin salary.

Their best hope for Raycroft is re-entry waivers over the off-season. He'd be a $1m cap hit there, maybe someone will bite that wants an experienced backup. But that still seems unlikely. Sometime next year they can try again if there's an injury problem for another team.

Gill, in an ironic sense, is moveable.

Tucker and Blake... call me more than skeptical.

Kaberle would bring a great return and should be considered for that reason.

Nt NMC are not a huge deal I believe. Getting older guys to agree to leave a team in rebuilding in a market like Toronto should not be hard as the only teams trading for those types are contenders anyway. If they ask them to and it gets leaked to the media that they said no it would be a big problem for that player to deal with.

Now all those overpaid contracts on the other hand could be a big problem to move.

I didn't think Kabs had any clauses?

Yeah - I did catch a glance of Antropov on the ice & the trainer skated out, but that's nothing out of the ordinary w- Antropov Laughing I assume it was a high-stick or something. Really, it doesn't take much for Antropov to fall to the ice anyway.

Pohl looked like his ankle completely detatched from his body last night, too.
